Game Dev Tycoon

Its a pretty fun game for passing time (which quickly becomes lots of time), definitely feels like a mobile platform game, but that isnt always a bad thing i guess, its still a fun and entertaining game.
I went bankrupt not long after starting at the new office, i just struggled to create half-decent games, like 3-4's and then out of the blue i'd manage a 7-8.

FUFA 86 (9.25) was my best seller, 1.2m in sales. I've started over, with the plan of starting a little slower this time. Just created the Smile Engine ;) I'll be a millionaire again in no time :D

downloaded an android version (as i have no pc in my room yet) but i dont think its quite as complex. :( bummer. really wanted to play this. cant get on their website at work, just out of interest, what are the specs for it?

There is no android version! It's a different game made by a different company (Japanese for one) It's a fun game but this is much better, a lot harder as well.

Its so random. I create a good game with 9.25 reviews. Then with the money I reaserch a lot of new stuff, hire some people, create a new engine, and after w 6/7 rated games, I make its sequel.

I get some 50 design and 50 tech, and it gets a 4/5 review.

Most of it seems random to me.

design and tech quantities is not directly linked to review scores.

The most important things are:

Whether genre and topic match
Whether they fit the system chosen
What bars you choose on the 3 development stages

oh! :o

paid one pound 60 for that android game

Don't be sad about that. All of the Kairosoft games on Android are awesome! And game dev story is one of their best ones. Plays pretty similar to this one and is much cheaper to boot. Not as pretty given its age, but I always put more points into gameplay and story anyway!

its challenging and good fun admittedly :D although, i always find myself so short of cash as most of my games turn out crap :/ the scores i usually get are in the 3's to 5's. buying the lease to a new games console franchise is difficult!

Finally starting to make things happen :D

Just hit the Xbox 360 debut, spent a long time in the garage because i always failed when making the switch to the offices, but im now in the 3rd location, ive been self-publishing almost all my titles and been able to create new game engines whenever i've felt it worthwhile (usually each new GPU update).

I'll stick some info about which genre & topic into spoilers, incase people dont want to read it. Its nothing mind-blowing, and certainly hasnt been a guaranteed formula, but people might see it as a spoiler anyway.
My best title so far has been a medium scale Vampire/RPG-Adventure with a 9.75 score, 2.6m units sold for a 27.3m profit, only my second title to hit #1. I've just unlocked large scale projects, and ive got 36m in the bank so im thinking of doing a new engine and hitting the next-gens with something ambitious.

Early on (first 10 titles or so) i got 2x 10-10-10-9's which really made me want to scream when that last 9 came up. One was a racing/casual on the gameling straight after it launched (my first #1), the other was a Fantasy/RPG on the PC for a mature audience.

Bought this from GHG after watching a video of it being played by Sips from the yogscast, looks quite a fun little time sink.

Finished my first full playthrough
Final score: 41,162,535

Records in spoilers (best sellers, most profitable etc)
Most expensive: 18.3m (Battlefield 3)
Most profitable: 76.4m (Battlefield 3)
Least profitable: -12.9m (Vampire: Begins)
Most used topic: Military/Racing (11)
Most used genre: Casual (27)

Small Games: 30
Medium Games: 23
Large Games: 9
AAA Games: 4
Good Games: 25 (38% - rather pathetic)

Publishers used: 3
Self Published: 63 (of 66)

Best Seller: FF VII (5.7m - published) - Halo = 5.5m, which was self-pub, BF3 went on to hit 6.55m .

Fans: 635.7k
Cash: 47m (would be far more if the game hadnt stopped after 2wk of BF3s launch, worth +50m)

edit: Just smashed it with my next game, Guitar Hero (Rhythem/Cas-Simu) which did 12.5m, 175m cash

You dont get much chance to do much in the demo. 5 years goes by very quickly. It also seems a bit random. Been playing the Android version (demo as well) and having more fun with that one.

I'd prefer something with more stats and depth like Gamebiz but with much friendlier UI and graphics. In GDT there didnt seem to be an option to look at the VG charts, no E3 sorta thing either. I would either do a contract and trust to luck or dev a game but whether its great or not felt also a bit random hrmm dunno.

At a loss to get things right!

I get record breaking games in terms of design and tech points, then the games only score a 4 or a 5 when ive even followed trends such as platforms and audiences.

Not sure if im doing the sliders wrong or something, i must be, but im only allocating what i think makes logical sense.

Took a look at the wiki page, genre combos are more or less correct, otherwise useless.
