GAME - Gamestation, about to fold?

Hmmm, I'd rather GAME didn't close tbh. I actually like to buy my consoles from there, because in the past whenever there's been a fault and it's in warranty they grab a new one and give it to me there and then.

And I would have thought GAME closing would certainly negatively impact the gaming market. Afterall it is the biggest gaming shop in the UK.

I'd imagine other shops will end up bumping their prices up. Then we'll have to shop online like it or not.

Gamestation was such a great store before Game bought em out. Sometimes they'd get really cool stuff in their retro side like Vectrex's, 3DOs and even the odd NeoGeo AES game.

That all stopped as soon has Game bought them out. I bought so many retro Sega stuff from there back then.

went into the 3 game shops in town today to try again to get mw3 since it is marked at £34.99

1st one had boxes on the shelf but marked coming soon, 2nd had boxes on the shelf get to the til the look around for about 5 mins have non left. last one had boxes on the shelf in stock "oh this has gone back upto £44.99", "it says now £34.99 on the box", "they must have forgot to change it." "forget it dosent matter" and i walked out no wonder they are having trouble if they have shelf stock saying one price then the till saying another higher price.

CeX stops taking trade ins on stock if they have too many or based on other hidden criteria in their system.

On many of the older titles, the chances are they will have turned them over before they have to drop the price below what they paid for it. It does happen of course, but they're pretty good at minimising the frequency at which it happens.

Havent been into GAME for ages, I know mum bought me my 3DS bundle from there as oddly they had the best offer at the time BUT I only use them and have for awhile if they have exclsuive rights to a collectors edition like GOW3 i had to go there to get the epic edition and same i have to go there for ME3 CE which imo is wrong since there in such a state why they keep getting these exclusive editions is a joke.

Not 'game over' for GAME as bankers lend support
The future of GAME Group, the struggling computer gaming retailer, looks secure for a while yet as the company revealed it is confident it will pass its latest banking covenant tests after agreeing new facilities with its lenders.

The future of GAME Group, the struggling computer gaming retailer, looks secure for a while yet as the company revealed it is confident it will pass its latest banking covenant tests after agreeing new facilities with its lenders.

The group also cheered investors by indicating that losses in the year to January 31st, 2012, will not be as severe as feared.

The board now expects that the full year loss before tax and non-recurring items will be around £18m; the consensus forecast among the ten brokers covering the stock is currently for a loss of £23.75m.

As for the revised banking facilities, the group has agreed to operate within lower limits of its existing facilities than was previously available. These revised facilities will allow the company to continue to trade.

The group has also agreed to provide an updated strategic plan for review, and approval in part, by the lenders. This plan will cover all aspects of the business's activities and strategy, including its overseas operations.

The new strategic plan will need to address a number of challenges facing GAME, including weak consumer confidence, the competitive threat from Internet rivals and the rise in popularity of smartphones as games machines, which is causing some to question the future of games consoles and, more specifically, hand-held dedicated gaming devices.

Ian Shepherd, Chief Executive Officer of GAME was not sugar-coating the company's predicament.

"We're pleased to reach agreement with our lenders, but should be under no illusions about the challenges in our market or the hard work that is required to deliver our strategic plan," Shepherd said.

Shares in GAME rose 1.72p to 7.05p in response to the announcement, but are still down almost nine-tenths over the last year.

I don't mind GAME as I've said before but their customer service team has been sorely testing my patience as of late, I preordered the Street Fighter X Tekken Special Edition for both PS3 and 360 off their online store and at the time I preordered the games were £59.99 each. Since then the price of the games has gone down to £49.99 and normally in the past I would've been notified about this but this time I wasn't and when I checked the pre-orders on my account it still shows I am due to be charged £59.99 for each game.

I sent an email off to their customer services team asking what was going on, I included all the information they normally ask for order number(s) etc etc. I got a reply saying the following:

'Thank you for your email.

Unfortunately our prices are subject to change at any time. We would not look to refund the difference for these orders. It does state under the terms and conditions that this may occur.I apologise for any inconvenience.'

Basically, they think I have ordered and received two orders and I seen they had come down in price on their website and wanted a refund to match their new price. They didn't read my query correctly at all, nor did they even look at the order numbers they asked me for.

Come on GAME -_-

I pre ordered my special edition on the 360 for £39.99 :P

I have £40 of trade in credit at gamestation, better convert that into PSN vouchers!

Yeah I seen it for £42.99 over at play but I have a ton of reward points I want to use up at game, good stuff though Kree. I'm also kind of paranoid at who delivers on time thesedays, game are pretty good they keep me right 90% of the time.

I'm on holiday when it's our so I'm in no rush. There are fat more important things in life and I'd rather save a few bob.

It's nice to be as laid back as that, simple fact is I'm not. Just don't like waiting on things, the best solution would be going to the local shops but unfortunately the selection around my area is a bit limited and I certainly wouldn't get my hands on a limited edition of the game. There's a game store about 20 minutes from me but they normally charge sometimes as much as £10 more than online, shame.

Are these guys still open?!

Game and Gamestation are nextdoor but one to eachother here in Rochdale!

Neither have had any good deals on any games for many moons now. Supermarkets are much better.

If they fold there will only be a couple of shops left in the exchange. It's almost empty as it is.

If they did close I doubt I'd really miss them, as you said supermarkets are better and even HMV are cheaper half the time.

went in my local game today

the vita demo thing wasn't set up and they didn't sell the metal gear collection

i left empty handed and still knowing not much about the vita. nice one game

Same here, received the email early this morning saying that they were merging the website into Gamestation. I may use the £5 off voucher to get Silent Hill HD pack as they have it for £22.99 so will make it cheaper than anywhere else.

Seen reports of people buying vita games from GAME and these having a sticker on the back with the message 'property of sony computer entertainment' and a return address - Sony covering there backs if the company go belly up?

My copy of Little Deviants from Gamestation had that sticker on the back too... have the reports been for all Vita games from GAME/Gamestation, or just those published by Sony Computer Entertainment?
