GAME - Gamestation, about to fold?

They can't compete with the prices and convinence of online shopping.

Is it only me that think ordering stuff online is a big hassle? Stuff more often gets delayed or lost than delivered to me. And I don't have the opportunity to sit around for hours an wait either.

Which is why I always go buy something in-store instead. Surely I can't be the only one!

I work for one of the said companies and I can't really disclose much but they are obviously fully aware of the companies current standing. Luckily for them they aren't as stupid as Blockbusters and refusing to change strategy.

Take a look at what Curry's did with all their Dixon's stores a few years back...Same thing will eventually happen by the looks of things.

I'd love to be able to go into a shop made up like old EB or PCworld with lots of games on shelves in massive boxes, nostalgia world.. The grass does seem greener on the otherside here.

Depends completely on what I am ordering and if it is an impulse buy or not. Generally though for me unless I decide on release day to pick up a game then I will order online as 5 minute order online or 10min detour walk after work + time standing in a queue. If the game is already out then it is completely dependant on price (and how much I want the game) if the high street is £1 more then likely I will go to the shop instead of waiting 2 days for postage. Saying that though, it always seems to be hmv that is close to online pricing which I don't mind though game is usually stupidly prices. I know for forza 4 I didn't pree-order it so checking prices but online cheapest was £29, hmv was £31 but game was £38!

I went into game a few weeks back to buy an Xbox 360 and the thing that annoyed me most is the amount of crap they tried to sell me with it.

One pound more and you won't buy from a physical retailer? To be fair then your not the intended market for Game. It's unrealistic to expect that kind of price difference with shops overheads.

I think people in here the "hardcore" gamers are forgetting we only make up a small percentage of the overall Market, and for us rather than price Game buys exclusive DLC that in many cases we can't get anywhere else.

Yeah I think that has gone over a lot of peoples heads... while buying online is pretty big, it's still far outweighed by the number of games sold on the high-street.

I suppose though one thing I sort of forgot is how for many years, Game was the only place I ever shopped. As far back as my Amiga I would buy games from them.

tempting - what if they bounce back to over £1 - its happend before

Wont happen this time! They will go under and ill get me a new wii out of the stock clearance.... (hopefully one that doesn't turn off after an hour)

Hope they go under, stopped caring about the place when they stopped the 14 days no fuss returns as that was the best game rental service in existence! (and the price sometimes was not based on the amount I payed but what it was priced at now when it was more...).

Its been a nasty, badly run shop for many years now run by idiots.

Not used GAME/Gamestation in years. GAME has always been an overpriced piece of **** store, Gamestation used to be good and have varied stuff in but now they have nothing and are overpriced.

The only store I use these days is Cex.

For clarification, I said if it is £1 more, than more than likely I woulf buy from the shop (and not online.) There is obviously many factors that go into it but they really get summed up to price and can I wait for it (some games I am like a kid at christmas and can't wait haha) but other times I know it will have to wait until the weekend so waiting for post isn't any problem.

I wouldn't call myself a hardcore gamer though I understand your point. I also take your point about can't expect stores with overheads to compete with online shops however hmv do it. I have noticed more that they have better deals online but their in shop prices are usually competitive. As I said previously I know forza was only a couple quid more than online so hmv got my custom then.

The last time i went into game was when Dead island was released, they were selling around £9-10 more than any other store, i asked if they still price match and got told NO in quite a sharp answer, so i bought it in another shop.

i wouldnt miss if the do go, its just sad there will be another 2 shops sitting empty.

i remember when GAME floorspace was 70% pc games , 10% graphics cards/sound cards , 10% pc peripherals and 10% left for playstation etc :D

those were the days

Yes, I would certainly conclude from your tale of return policy abuse that the idiots are behind the counter and that it is their fault that prices are high and the business is about to fold.

i completely agree, silly prices, silly staff - havent bought a game instore for 5+ years

EDIT: actually, i bought cod4 two years ago pre-owned from gamestation and guess how much they wanted £37.99 :mad::mad:

So why did you buy it if the price was so ludicrous?

lol, not in this market, supermarkets and online retailers have killed them

they are no longer paying quidco either, that's how strapped they are for cash. they will be bought out by employee's (directors) and then run for a further 6 months, closing all stores which make a loss or next to zero profit before declaring bankruptcy, when all stores make a loss.
