GAME - Gamestation, about to fold?

Like blockbuster, i hope they go under and soon. Awful business models that are holding the industry back.

How exactly and which industry are they holding back.

They are hardly holding back the games industry or the game selling industry. So how are they doing anything except hurting themselves?

Decided to treat myself to a giggle and walked into Game on Saturday - wasn't jumped on (thankfully) as they were busy with other customers, and I was actually (reasonably) impressed with prices – but they’re only low on some games and only due to an offer (£23 for Skyrim, £30 for Drakes 3 etc.... both I already own though).

Annnnyway, I decided to check the price of MW3 (or is it 4?) as I wouldn’t mind trying the SP, and oddly, it was still up for £45! What made me laugh though, was the shop worker giving advice to a couple of parents buying said game for a loved one – they asked about the price and the assistant mentioned it hadn’t been discounted due to being a “triple A title”, and followed on with as they’ll be paying £50 on top (I presumed for the online elite thingy) the price wouldn’t really matter.... lol.

Suffice to say I left empty handed.

Well they must be doing something right, I have it on good authority that there is no danger of them disappearing yet.

I have no complaints about receiving the FM3 LCE a day before launch from them for £45. I don't know who to fully blame over the GAME FM4 LCE exclusive rip off. Game or MSG

Whatever about GAME been bad, Steam are far worse!

Steam charge £42.50 for Batman:AC and £51 for MW3 in eurozone countries..... now there is a company that I hope gets put out of business and ASAP!!

This has been done time and again :( Steam are told at what price to sell other peoples game afaik, if it's expensive on Steam and it isn't developed my valve then it's not Steam's fault.

Please feel free to correct me as I believe this to be true.

From Steam FAQ's.

3. Who sets the price for my game on Steam?
Pricing is very title specific, and we've got a lot of data and experience to help you decide on what the best price is for your title. We'll work with you to figure out pricing.

I.E They sit down and say:"Hey, it's europe- they are use to been shafted so lets just set it at a nice round €60".

Lets hope that once the EU are finished investigating Apple and book publishers for doing the very same thing they will turn their attention to Steam and close the buggers down.

I will let it rest at that, as it is indeed OT.

I don't think the brand will close but rather become a more dominent online supplier. Remember when Zavvy closed it's retails stores....I beleive they got bought out and then it moved to online only. Perhaps the same will happen with more and more video game retailers.

Supermarkets have taken a lot of their marketshare in recent years. Just look at the queues at Asda, Tesco when a MW3 is released. Supermarkets are taking over everything.

Game to call in experts on restructuring
JAMES THOMPSON SATURDAY 10 DECEMBER 2011

Game Group is poised to hire a restructuring team at Deloitte, the accountancy firm, to deliver a strategic plan for next year to help it turn around its dire performance.

The embattled computer games retailer, which has 610 UK stores, has also spoken to restructuring teams at other firms over recent weeks about improving its deteriorating financial position. But Deloitte appears the front-runner to be hired.

Game – which had debts of £91m as of 31 July – has been hit by the wider consumer downturn. But the retailer is also suffering from tanking demand for its products, despite a boost from new releases, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

In November, Game issued its second profits warning in five months, adding that its like-for-like sales this year would be down by at least 7 per cent. The City expects Game to post a loss of £12m for the year to 31 January. Its shares have lost 87.5 per cent of their value this year and closed at a lowly 8.75p yesterday.

Alongside its profit warning last month, Ian Shepherd, the chief executive of Game, insisted it had "outperformed the market", but said it was in "extraordinary economic times". Royal Bank of Scotland is the biggest lender to Game. All parties declined to comment.

Why you'll only be buying it off GFWL for £65 if steam go out of business bro.

So buy the game from retail for less, I agree Steam's prices are rather ridiculous much of the time, but it's no different to most other online platforms.

£45 for generic warfare 3 !

Well it is a cash cow :D Still, quite fancy playing SP though, even if it will be an on the rails spectacular, like all the CoDs past... still, it's fun for the 4-6 hours it'll last.... not at £45 bloody quid though (maybe £30).

Soulless places, every time I go in to browse it seems like its parents buying stuff for their kids.

Only an idiot would buy from Game at their prices.
