Not that I'm complaining too much, but boy have games started to bloat in terms of GB used... I'm sitting here, with a 150GB partition and wanting to install Napoleon total war, and not got enough space on my games partition..

I hate to un-install games I've liked playing and fancy a quick base at later on.. PC games take a few attempts sometimes to config and get the patches all installed, and with Windows 7, you have that lovely games folder that I've now got about 20 games listed in... Makes it look like a more gaming platform, but the HDD space games are using now...

Phew... 4 - 8GB some of them... And Napoleon is more than this... Oh well, progress guess I'll have to buy that nice new 2TB drive after all... lol

I can easily see why its getting large though, these high res games are really starting to look fantastic, its just a shame a game like Dirt 2, thats great for a quick spin takes up 8GB and its more hassle to un-install and re-install.

This is where consoles win.... You just pop the DVD in and off you go... Erm hey but thats not right... PS3 is a bugger for large HDD installs now.. So, no its not just PC is it...

Right, ordering a huge.. !! I mean huge HDD..!! Wheres that credit card... She'll never know.. !! lol

I agree but then you have to look at the amount of detail in the newest games, massive amounts of data involved. My two biggest games are GTA4 @ 15GB and The Force Unleashed which is a massive 29GB. :o

My modded UT2004 folder eats 20GB. Still I'd rather the third party stuff be detailed than scrimp for the sake of 20MB here or there.

Getting a new drive during the summer for this very reason, I'm always reluctant to un-install games simply because I think I might go back to them at some point but then it's always a struggle to find space for any of the new games.

all my steam folder now mounts up to over 200GB now this also isnt inc other DVD games i have. Not sure what the biggest game i have installed

This is becoming quite a problem as people switch to smaller, faster drives like SSDs.

I have to chop and change to keep everything happy, but I can't afford a 256GB drive.

I know I could just get a mechanical drive for my games, but I love the fast loading speeds! :)

Least I'm not the only one reluctant to un-install games.... It takes a while to get them installed, and up and running correctly....

Games such as Need for Speed Shift and Dirt2 are fantastic for a quick blast, but I've just recently gone back to Tomb Raider anniversary, its been installed for months but just decided the other night, on a whim to play it.. As I didn't have to install it, I just ran it, upped the res to 1920 x 1080 and off I went...

Simple.. Shame its not doing my HDD space much good.. I do remember it being like this in the good old days when DOS 6.0 ruled the world, and you needed to install games from floppy to HDD and I had a 40MB drive...

Then CD came along, and for a short while they ran from CD, but even with the fastest CD rom drives appearing, it wasn't good enough... Games went back to installing on a HDD and I soon had my first 4GB drive.. I soon filled it... I remember getting a 160GB drive, and thought - never fill this... Oh yes I did..

Now I've got 2 x 500GB and a 500GB external for movies and music - guess what... Pretty much going to be out of space.. I can re-configure the games partition to have an additional 100GB and that's it... Space for around 10 games, if I'm lucky...

How bad is this, but I do enjoy those wonderful eye candy graphics... lol

Well yes but if you actually bought an SSD without expecting to have to move games around occasionally you're a nutjob >< Personally i think they're a bit too expensive for what they are and i'll wait till they start coming down in price.

Anyway, my Steam folder is currently clocking in at... *waits for it to finish* ... *waits more* ... 261gb

just installed gta 4 and the standalone episodes from steam, took an age and off the top of my head gta 4 alone is about 12 gig? what shocks me more than this though is how large demos are now, average decent demo is just over a gig, i remember the days of downloading 50 meg demos on 56k, and they took long enough!

That's way I got new 500GB Hdd Only for Games!

Before had about 25 Games installed and it took about 150-200GB ... now leaving only games which worth to keep installed!

Yup the trend forced me to pick up a 1TB HDD, I remember buying BGII and seeing 5 disks, feeling stunned, seeing GTA's HDD footprint surprised me too

A terrabyte drive costs 50 quid (or a 500gb drive for a ps3 also cost 50 quid) :p

But a lot opf it is because people expect their textures to be more than 800x600 :p
