Gamecube Component Cable Help...

I know this is a bit of a long shot but i don't suppose anyone on the boards knows where i could find a Gamecube component cable that costs less than the £60 imported ones on ebay?

I think i've possibly located one in a second hand store in Ipswich on the cheap but my only problem is i live nowhere near. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sorry to sound dense, but is the the gamecube -> three wires plug?

I'm pretty sure it was exactly the same as the n64 one.

It is the same IIRC

I'm sure that came with gamecube as standard! My gamecube came with a cable that connected the gamecube to three wires with an adaptor for a scart socket.

Hell, you can have mine for £60

you're all thinking of the analogue Composite cable which came as standard with the cube, im looking for the digital Component cable which was discontinued and is now pretty difficult to get hold of.

No the component cable for the gamecube is Red, Green & Blue and only carries video. You then need normal phono plugs etc for audio.

CEX have stock in Ipswich, I'm guessing thats the one you've found?

OP you'll have to check that your GC is compatible with the componant lead and has the extra port for this (this was only put on early versions of the machine IIRC)

I may be wrong but i though component was disabled in PAL versions Gamecubes and was only possible on a NTSC Gamecube?

Hmm, looks as though the Gamecube Component cable has an IC in it so no 3rd party ones exist, this also explains the price. It also seems only the original batches of Gamecube can support the component cable(?). You maybe best selling the Gamecube & buying a Wii with component cable, it might be cheaper.

Only in later versions of the console that were missing the Digital AV out, my PAL cube worked like a dream with a Japanese cable

yea that one in CEX was the one i found.. sadface. i love my trusty old cube, unless i can find someone who lives in ipswich so buy it and send it over to me then im probably a bit stuffed or will just have to make do with the horribly blurry image... damn you HD TV!

i tried calling the branch directly to confirm they had it in stock but the only phone number for it is an internal number and the guy on the phone wasn't too happy that i called them on it lol.

I was under the impression that an original PAL cube with the digital output would work fine with a component cable? seems kinda pointless for them to put the output on the back only for it not to work...

480p or progressive scan mode was removed from PAL Gamecubes. However the PAL gamecube can (DOL-001 models) work with the Component cable. Whether there is actually any difference from the official RGB Scart cable is the debatable point. A useful thread here:

My guess is that for either official cable you would need to be prepared to spend a fair amount, and it isn't going to be cheap.

At one point I did own an unboxed silver, switched GC with a Sauron RGB Scart cable and it was a lovely machine but I don't own it anymore. I am personally fine the Wii with component cable and 100% backwards compatibility to be just fine for the few times I play GC games.
