I was addicted to SWG before the NGE hit, was more because I was one of the best Armorsmiths about and was making a fortune on ebay selling the credits.

Hearing about this makes me so sad still :(

Don't like losing? ;)
Haha how did you guess? :D

Although at one point I was ok at UT2004 deathmatch. Not great but I could sometimes come first place. But really I'm just not a competitive person.

I ended up with a rubbish degree due to playing far too much Quakeworld. I knew what was happening, but the game is just so good that I didn't care.

Deep down I know I should regret it but it was so much fun that I can't say I was a complete waste of my life. 5 years after graduating I'm still playing although this year I have cut back a lot, I'm not addicted anymore since I can go a couple of weeks without playing even though it is still fun when I do.

Now your nick rings a bell.
There was a HangTime who was really good on the BarrysWorld servers but where bought out when i used to play on my amiga as Amiga-Alkemyst.

Must start playing again now that i have a PC.

It`s not about how many friends you got. It`s how GOOD your friends are that count.
I know lots of people but my proper friends I can count on one hand !

Yes, I remember you :) At first I don't think many people believed that you could actually play QW on an amiga but the 20fps was a bit of a giveaway :)

There's probably a lot of gamers from the late 90s who have fond memories of Barrysworld and the regular games there. Everything revolved around them (and Wireplay, to be fair) in the UK and I think it was a common routine for many people, dialing up after 6pm and then hopping on Barrys for a quickblast, ending up playing all night in some massive teamgames and then going to bed dreaming of doing the same the next day.

hehehe i used to go on the barrysworld cs servers daily.. and had their site as my homepage

used wireplay before that in the days of quake2 (before i was smart enough to use somethin that didn't drain the life out of your bank account)

Nahhh I get bored of games within an hour these days, dunno what's wrong with me. In my teens used to play on the PSX with my mate until our eyes bled (well they hurt a lot anyway)

Ahhh Barrysworld the memories. Used to be the 3rd largest GSP in Europe in its hay day. Fantastic community at its time as well. Alas its now on its arse a bit as freddyshouse. Many hours lost on their servers thats for sure.

They even have their own little corner on Wiki as well

The most I have ever played in a row is proberly 6-7 hours a few times. But now, I play for an hour and a half at most proberly before switching off. Seriously, do you not find it boring in comparrison to socialising? :/

For some people it is socialising, people in teams that know there team mates well and chat away for hours everyday over vent/ts or whatever.

It depends. Playing 6-7 hours of quality teamgames can be immensely good fun, often more fun than 6-7 hours sat in bars with people I'm not overly friendly with. 'Socialising' tends to be too inconsistent for my liking.

For many people, social networking is done as much on the internet as it is 'IRL' now, too.

Well, in World of Warcraft I levelled from level 57-60 in one sitting which took me about 30 hours.

Needless to say, my girlfriend dumped me the next day :D

I played wow for 18 hours a day for about 2 months now im playing 18 hours a day of cs/wc3 - careface approach i go out and get wrecked and go to parties when i want to not everyone else.
