Gamers Nexus lay into NZXT

I'm surprised it took so long TBH, I remember looking at these just out of curiosity earlier this year and it was so ridiculously expensive, it never made any sense. What's worrying, is people have actually signed up!

I find it frustrating as I like NZXT's products and my last three builds have been in their cases (current build has NZXT case, CPU cooler, fan controller and PSU). I probably won't stop buying from them though, as long as their actual products stay good.

Haven't watched the whole thing yet, but what I have seen so far is pretty bad. It's great that GN make these kinds of things. I'm glad that we have someone who is trying to take out the trash.

Apparently they're offering a very poor leasing deal. I don't know if this is available in the UK.

Looking at the site, it doesn't look like. um...."unlimited warranty" rental is available here, but that's probably because we have way better consumer protection than our american cousins do. Either way, their prices are atrocious.

You know what I was watching the news this evening and one of MP's wants to introduce a bill to limit social media access to under 16's. My immediate thought was this another case of a government overstepping it's role and getting involved in things it shouldn't but after watching that video and seeing the role that 'influencers' play in promoting this crap it makes it kind of difficult to argue a case against such a law.

Wonder how much j2c lost through this. Him saying he thought it was a bad deal....but went ahead and advertised it anyway lost a lot of respect from me. Clearly he's been pushed into this position by gn video rather than doing what's right as a tech reviewer/influencer in the first place. Money talks i guess.

Most people in here moaning about GN haven't actually watched the video, that's pretty clear.
The video is just full of hyperbole and faux lawyers making outrage. It really isn't the scadal he is making out, much like the LTT video he did. He just knows doing a smear piece triggers the white-knight IT crowd ("he is doing gods work for us!!!11") and makes him a load of money.

There was some definite shady stuff in the LTT video though.

That prototype debacle is absolutely shameful.

For the folks on the fence it's not about 'being forced to buy it', it's the focus on exploiting children by using all these amoral influencers who've all pretty much used disingenuous or outright falsehoods to sell this scummy service that is indefensible. It's pretty obvious that NZXT isn't concerned either or they'd have ensured their advertising partners content wasn't full of ****.

Nzxt'a business model is not new - appliance rental companies have existed for a long time and they do the same thing - they rent devices at very high prices that are equivalent to like 100% interest rates

What I do find dodgy is advertising to kids and telling them they can make the money back by winning a Fortnite tournament

Absolutely awful take and rubbish. There is literal facts and a real lawyer.

You have read most contracts you sign up to? Most of the crap he pulled out as outrageous is boiler plate in most contracts. Crikey even a Chinese takeaway has a "check your change before you leave the door" sign.

Edit: the guy even used a £5k overbill as an example    Pure hyperbole.

I don't think it's even worth people trying to defend such companies, even if they think certain YT channels are just click bait or low level quality. These companies (near mostly all companies that are traded, if not all), will do anything they can possibly get away with to screw every last penny out of any person be that vulnerable or not.

Indeed, and its actually watchable content unlike the utter drivel linus and j2c put out.
I like and appreciate what GN does, but Steve's presentation is an hour or more of fast-talking monotony showcasing such geeky details that I just switch off. He needs to take some lessons in presenting, as his delivery is like watching the office junior do a My First PowerPoint on why we should keep our paperclips on our own side of the desk...

Most people used to rent their TVs back in the day.
Most of us had them on Hire Purchase though, so at least we'd end up owning them.

Think of the valuable exercise you can get from putting yourself in a position of defending them. Mental gymnastics all day.
