Gamers, What's Your Audio Set Up?

Hope its OK but I've added a post, maybe way too long or detailed but to try and see if anyone comes back with anything. The thing that is in the Fulla, Hel & Gunnr's favour is that very few seem to complain about volume in relation when using on the PS4/5 which may be indicative of it not being impacted.
I did see a notification of a user stating a lot more in-depth knowledge than I originally posted so I assume that will be yourself.
I'll catch up with it all soon and see if any other replies have been posted.

This looks interesting for console (and PC) users. Had the G6 for years and enjoyed it - this seems a good value solution provided audio stacks up.

I was thinking of trying the Gunnr, but I might as well wait for reviews on the G8 now (I'm also a former G6 owner and fan). TBH the main stumbling block with the Gunnr for me is having to buy from the US - it adds to the overall cost, and introduces uncertainty re: returns and warranty claims etc. We'll be able to pick up the G8 pretty much anywhere.

You can buy from Schiit Audio UK (I got my Hel from there) - think they are a reseller but easier for returns and warranty then. Only problem is things take a bit longer to come into stock :)

I noticed in the spec for the G8 it states PS5 requires the optional HDMI to SPDIF splitter.
I'd guess that was game/chat mix functionality - a bit like how the Astro A50x handles it?

Yea, this is its party trick. The GC7, G6 etc all need optical to separate the game and chat audio. You also need optical (and HDMI) for the Dolby Digital VSS on consoles.

I noticed in the manual for the PS5 setup it says HDMI or Optical for audio so either it your TV has an optical out or a splitter (least desirable of the 3 options).

Given the optical in, HDMI in, USB in X2 and line-in this thing might be able to play a crazy number of audio sources at the same time.

Yea. That’s a warning flag for me. It can be returned if it’s not great though.
I don't know, in that I remember when I got the Fiio K11 on this forum. There were no real reviews on YT. A lot of these audiophile channels seem to stick their nose up at Creative gear now.

That said it is a bit weird not to have the launch a bit more organised like the Gunnr. I'm hopeful the G8 will be good though. On paper there's a lot to like and it does some things no other DAC/AMP does.

Well - I got my G8 about an hour ago so based on some very limited testing, I have some views :p

Connected up firstly with Mains power to USB 1 and PS5 to USB 2 - high gain and connected my MMX330 Pro - blimey - needed the volume wheel about 75% around to get to where I wanted it! Connected the G8 to my Macbook and the thing blew my ears off (I forgot to turn the G8 dial down first!!).

Went back to the PS5 and simply connected the USB cable to USB1 without the power adaptor and pleased to report to output is pretty much like it was on the Macbook to my ears - I can't get near 50% on High Gain with the MMX but would bo good to see how it gets on with harder to drive headphones!

Also pleased that the Mic input seems far better quality than the G6 I had - much less thin sounding to me and from initial testing on the PS5 (Mic Level testing area and alson recording some voice messages) it's sounding great.

Tried both an Android and iOS device but neither detect the G8 when wired and can't see any other way to connect the devices. The G8 isn't listed yet in the app though so maybe it needs an update.

So far, I've seen (and heard) enough so think I'll keep it for use with the PS5 (have yet to work out the HDMI connection options), move the Hel 2 to the PC and relegate the Quedlix to mobile duties :)

So far so good then @WhiteHartMart ? That's interesting about the mic quality as it's one of the things reviewers complimented the Gunnr on. Looks like the Schiit doesn't have an advantage in that area then.
Yea - I'm pleased the mic input is a step up from the G6. I'd say it's still not quite as full sounding as the Hel + I have but it's more than good enough for PS5 chat use now.

Be interested to see how the Gunnr compares but the price of the G8 makes it attractive for my gaming use - means I can keep the Hel+ on my desk for working from home and music listening use :)

Nice one! I have my PS5 on my desk with my PC so I'll be using a single audio solution for everything. Have you had a chance to listen to music on the G8? I haven't been able to find what DAC chip it's using, although I suspect it will be good enough for my ancient ears. :o
