Games like Eve Online?

Star Trek Online is free, has trading and crafting and tones more content then Eve-online although its a lot more casual and PvE focused then Eve. If solo/offline play is ok there are a lot of options that have not been listed. Is online a requirement?

No preference about online or offline.

Might try Star Trek Online in a bit.

I've had a quick go of X4 this afternoon... It's first person flying the ship which I didn't really want. Hired a bod to fly it, but now can't figure out how to do anything - undock etc..
Hmm.. I'm missing something obviously!

Seems many reviews of Star Trek Online accuse it of being pay to win. Not a fan of microtransactions tbh.
There is nothing in Star Trek Online that is pay to win. You can access the entire game and all the content without putting in a single penny. I buy rare ships by crafting, making money on the market to then buy the ship without spending any real cash.

Its personal preference but I do find putting the space camera in "chase mode" makes a more fun space combat game. That only works if you fly a ship based around a forward shooting arc.

EDIT: Being an MMO there are a lot of grinds but all are optional. You can play everything without them.

After all this, I think I wanna get back into Eve. I recovered my account and logged in. I have 5 billion isk!

The UI has me running scared, I can’t remember the foggiest how to play. Can anyone recommend a video or something that will get me back into the swing of things??

Do what I do, if you have a free character slot start a new character and run through the tutorials again :)

Eve is a double edged sword. It's superb right up until other people are involved.

Actually gets better when people are involved. Between 2003 and 2013 I was playing Eve affecting the whole game, while at work without having loaded the game client.....but IRC.

How? Getting nvolved in politics and diplomacy of big alliances :)

And when operations were organised we were hundreds in the BoB channels.

Yeah definitely some experiences you won't get in any other game when involving other people.

For instance I remember when one of the big Russian alliances was getting pushed out of their nullsec space and I went out with a small fleet to hunt out targets of opportunity generally hunting the region and watching operations as the timers ran down - seeing the frantic evac efforts on one side and the progressive build up of super capitals on the other playing out, drake fleets in their 100s probing back and forth and so on, seeing other corps and alliances bringing fleets in for either side after being called to help, etc.

And even today not having played in over 4 years I still seem to be part of the game LOL

Part of the destruction of Hard Knock's Keepstar.

Not quite sure how that happened as someone must have scooped a tornado I was the last to pilot and had it unused in storage for years - but I didn't really pilot them much, didn't really like the ship, other than some suicide ganks where it was blown up anyhow and a couple of roams both of which I repackaged and sold the ship after.

EDIT: One of my old corpmates as well https://zkillboard.com/kill/74023145/ not sure how someone has old tornados we last piloted - also a few other unfit tornados were destroyed assumedly after dropping as loot.
