games performing badly

I have an asrock 939 board, a bfg 7900 gtx, an athlon x2 3800, and 1 gb of memory. All new, and from ocuk.

The harddrive is clean and has been formatted recently, I have drivers installed for my graphics card, the processor, and dx9c. sp2.

The problems are in games like Oblivion, where if you move to the left or right which the mouse, it lags a little, and when you move forward too. This particular game always freezes like clockwork after 10 minutes, then comes back after 20 seconds, and when I stop after a long period of play, it takes ages to get back to my destop. This happens no matter what resolution or settings I use.
Doom 3 is exactly the same as far as the mouse lag and jittering is concerned, but I also have this graphical ripple effect too, like if you walk toward a wall, you'll see a kind of ripple effect, again, it happens on any settings.
Some games, like RTW, works fine with none of the same problems.

I've ruled out sound being a problem, I don't know what else to do.

I get the same problems aparts from it freezing up.

I managed to curb some of the ripple by setting the GFX card to having antisropic filtering off, that seemed to help a great deal in COD2 & Doom3.

I also have a BFG, tbh, am not so impressed with it.

I don't need 2gb of ram, that's not going to solve anything lol. I don't have the hotfix however, do you have a link for it?

I think you will find a noticable improvement in performance for all recent games with a Ram upgrade. 1Gb certainly isnt going to last very long with new titles.

1GB of ram in todays games is just not enough for smooth gameplay.

Why did you not get 2GB from the off?

Also that X2 3800 if running at stock 2ghz is a severe bottleneck for the GTX.

A speed of 2.6ghz should allow the GTX to perfrom like it should.

granted, more would help, but I'm not convinced it will fix these problems. The guy above says he has the same problems, look at his RAM - 2gb.. I will get more soon, but something tells me that I can remedy most of what's causing these problems without the aid of more ram. I mean, are all of these mouse lag issues simply down to a lack of ram? DOOM 3 only recommends 384..

I think its the BFG card myself.

Doesn't take well to the forceware drivers.

I know you said about trying all the settings, but have you tried going into profiles and turning off the anti thingy setting i mentioned before?

It helped immensely for me.

I litterely get every single problem you've listed, including oblivion, apart from freezing up.

The computer is clean, and has done this from the off.

common denominator is the BFG.

(I even thought the ripple might of been my old monitor, so went and bought a new one (needed to anyway like))

What a load of rubbish.

Never heard of 7900 GTX's not liking Forceware drivers. As these are the drivers that are needed.

My card hasn't settled with any forceware drivers for some time.

Its unfortunate that i cannot remember the one it did actually work well with.

I've gone back a bit, but cannot find it.

Probably not that, but driver updates dont help, and in some cases have made things a lot worse.

I need 2gb of ram, but now a new processor too? Something tells me you're an ocuk employee? ;)

what driver version are you using for the GTX?

Maybe you need to OC the CPU.

TBH, my computer runs at stock since i didn't buy any specialised cooling.

Maybe my CPU is holding me back a little?

Shame i've got no idea how to OC.

NOPE

I meant overclock that x 2 3800 a bit.

My 7900 GTX did not perfrom with my old stock x 2 3800 until I clocked it to 2.6ghz.

I'm offering advice that will help you.
