Games that don't work in 3440 x 1440

I played Fallout 4 fine in full screen on my X34 while it was working. I can't remember what I had to do to achieve that but it wasn't hard.
I broke my x34 (it's intact but non-functioning), cost of repair would have been over £700. If you want an x34 to artistically smash up let me know, you can have it (they sent it back to me, Moonbase Alpha Reading sector).
Acer did pay for the sending and return.

lol I'm just verbally erratic sometimes :)

EDIT: Sorry about you monitor. I had an Acer x35 horrible thing, this iiyama(been making quality monitors since PCs existed) from OC for £499.99(bargain) is the dogs ******** mind, best monitor I've actually seen.

Yeah don't be discouraged Dave. I have the XR34 and am a relative noob at PC gaming - certainly at modding and the like, however I have been able to get 90% of the 100+ games in my library to run at 3440x1440 be it native, a mod to a config.dll file or using Flawless Widescreen. I too was surprised that the older classic games like Half Life 2, F.E.A.R & the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games all support it natively compared to the more recent titles that don't. Capcom are particularly guilty but there are Flawless Widescreen solutions available for most. The only games I haven't managed to get a fix for are the likes of the Telltale games, South Park the stick of Truth and Life is Strange. These games did recognise that the monitor was 3440x1440 resolution but displayed it at 16:9 anyway - I guess these games are designed to have a certain amount of real estate on view at a given time. Can't say it bothered me for these games either.

Exactly, the older games! This is a blatant clue telling PC gamers, look you're second on our list with no special service. It used to be the other way round! The games are made on PC too, which boggles the mind. Kudos to FrogWare, as the latest Sherlock Holmes just works(borders in cut scenes which is completely understandable).

Played MGSV, every resolution works other than 3440x1440! I'm playing is at 2556x1080 I think.

What is "Flawless Widescreen"?

Cheers

It should be 3440x1440. If I remember rightly the menu's don't go to 21:9, but stay 16:9... I uninstalled it as I haven't played it in so long. :(

It is very strange. Going to check some of my graphics settings in the control panel. Must admit, Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor is my favourite so far, incredible. £4.99 for GotY edition at cdkeys.com , guess everyone has it now.

It's a program that has pre loaded fixes for certain games that don't support widescreen natively. Just type it in to google - it's a free download. :)

21:9 is great but so many games do not have native support & whenever they get patched the 21:9 mod usually gets broken so I gave up & bought a 40" 4K display which is a better overall experience.

16:9 is going to be the only aspect ratio you can count on for many years to come PC games wise.

Some games can take quite a lot of effort to get to work at 21:9, but it's definitely worth the effort.

Have to agree it does **** me off that we have to do the messing around though. I'm not a games developer, but if one game can work natively at 21:9, then why aren't all games made this way as standard. Why is there not some basic code of code conduct (get it!)?

I presume it's a very basic easy thing to do at a very base level, so why don't they all do it? Genuine question.

Out of all the games I have played, I haven't had any serious issues with 21.9, if a game hasn't had 21.9 support then I have found it to be an easy fix, either clicking one button in flawless widescreen or checking steam forums for a fix, which is usually going to a config file and tweaking a couple of lines. The game which took the most faff to get working with 21.9 was fallout 4 but hey, when the game launched, the option menu for setting any res. didn't even work lol...

I have to put more effort and time into getting most of these broken un-optimised games to run well nowadays.

AFAIK, the only game out there that won't work with 21.9 at all is overwatch, the developers refuse to support it because they believe it gives an advantage over 16.9 users

Adds to dev costs for QA & its still a niche format so I doubt support is changing anytime soon.

Also most games have 16:9 UI which do not scale properly to 21:9 as the elements are fixed & distort instead of stretching-scaling.

If some guy from the internet can get the basics of 21.9 working in his free time within a few days of release then there is no reason why a team of people doing this for a living can't.... It is just laziness from the developers.

Last time I checked steam survey, there were more 21.9 res users than 4k users so I wouldn't say it was that niche especially considering that there are far more 4k displays to choose from and it has been around for much longer too.

And yeah that is my only issue with 21.9 and games, the ui, most of the time is stuck in the 16.9 position rather than being put right to the edge of the screen. Not noticed any distortion though.

To be honest, if approached properly, the additional overhead would be minimal, plus as already mentioned, many older games support it without issue, before 21:9 was even thought of. I guess that's because a lot of those games were written in the period when 4:3, 16:10 and 16:9 were all used quite widely, so the scaling was built in already.

I'm just wondering whether or not to send my monitor back as most games I've tried just do not support the above resolution.

Evil Within
Metal Gear Sold V
Fallout 4
Darksouls 3

Skyrim. Seeing a pattern here? :p

I just use Flawless Widescreen, FO4 is still a bit beta though. Otherwise enter the resolution manually in the .ini and use borderless windowed

For metal gear solid phantom pain, I used this small fix on the widescreen forum. Was a small text file that worked fine for me: http://www.wsgf.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=95&t=30223 just need to repaste it in after any update as it gets overridden, but don't expect too many patches for the game these days.

Thanks mate, got the file downloaded but have no idea what to do next. That thread is nearly 80 pages long! and everyone seems more interested in a cheat file now, so I'll bookmark it and join to ask the install question at some point!

Because programmers habits are different for every studio... and they hate guidelines when they have deadlines. I get it a bit, being a programmer I hate the same thing BUT I do it.

Very lazy or weird even, considering how normal the resolution looks on a 2008 game, Dead Space, yes native resolution using the DirectX API.

Had 4K for a while, an Acer monitor and it did nothing for me, it was 28" I think, G-SYNC. This UltraWide gaming really is worth the effort, I am blown away.

Which makes you wonder even more why it isn't native, Overwatch just sucks full stop, biggest waste of money this year, by far. That's another topic!
