Games with deformable terrain

I think Red Faction was the best, I liked being able to find secret rooms by blowing junks of wall away and making little tunnels. You could also blow down the rock bridges if you destroyed every little bit of rock attaching either end, not very realistic in terms of physics but still looked good when it came crashing down.

I tell you what I also miss from games, anyone for SoF damage models? Imagine Crysis with this! The ability to blow limbs off, spill guts out, etc etc. When I first played SoF I was amazed. Now it's just like you shoot people, they die and the model looks exactly like it did if it hadn't been pumped full of 12-gauge... yet you still get blood splatter. Totally knocks it for me.

Crysis + deformable terrain + realistic damage models = THE best game ever. :D

yeh i do. Sof and especially sof 2 where you could scalp victims and see knife slashes made it all the better. If you shot someone in the leg with a pistol in real life they wouldnt die would they?

Like on deus x you could take legs hits and just have to crawl along, why cant we see this sort of thing in games. It would be easy enough to do. Just have someones leg fall off and they move slower  same with arms, hands etc missing they would have no gun or crappy aim (with no hands obviously!)

I bet they could make a model with over 1000 different hit points now, but instead they choose to have about 10

I believe issues would occur in multiplayer, excessive traffic and load on the server. If people didnt cheat so much it could probably be handled by the client more

you could allways play hl2 garrys mod. then build a huge building out of wood then rocket launch it then experience a "Warning overflow 34058340954380954830 ERROR ERROR ERROR WARNING WARNING WARNING" message :)

I think it's partly because physics as they currently are known in games are already very exhaustive; I can't imagine deformable terrain not going with physics. So I think the growth of projects like PhysX and their physics units will probably start encouraging deformable terrain again.

Well Soldner but that's rubbish too.

I liked red faction 1 and 2. I enjoyed the deathmatches with a mate and bots, had some pretty cool maps and weapons. As for Soldner, I read a review and it said stuff like groundbreaking. When I played it, it was absolute garbage. What a pile of ****. The best thing about the game was the way the guy parachute rolled through windows. If you compare that game to say BF2 its just appalling :)
