I went to the open day thing on Sunday and from what was said (and what I can remember, so I may be getting this totally wrong), they're working on other gangs but are a bit stretched and don't necessarily have enough resources (manpower and equipment) to run new things faster as they were started as a small group but have to do a number of things.

The reason for the single level scenery is apparently they didn't want put card scenery that would have looked out of place/not as good, but to do plastic scenery would have resulted in a very expensive box set and still not had enough for a lot of games.
They had some utterly awesome scenery in the hall for it, I'll try and post some pictures of my favourite bits if I remember.

I got the strong impression from the guys we spoke to that they'd love to do a lot more stuff for necromunda (not just additional gangs) but they are juggling a lot of things at once and are looking very seriously for more sculptors but there aren't that many who are good enough, know how to work with plastic miniatures, and are willing to work in Nottingham for the pay :p (they had leaflets out promoting job openings).
I'm sure I heard it mentioned they'd actually had 3 of the Citadel/40k guys move over to them but were still looking for more (and that the 40k side were now looking for more).

Oh and the bulkheads etc in the box work with the Zone Mortalis tiles.

I got the main game and expansion, but haven't had a game yet. Still playing Shadow Wars with firends while getting my gangs - incl. the new ones that's 5 complete gangs! - painted up. My table and battlemat arrived too and there's years worth of scenery to paint. Slowly coming together :)

That looks really nice well laid out and well painted.
The new scenery sets are apparently very good value if you can make use of them :), my brother has bought a couple of one of the sets because he has some ideas for how to use them, and worked out that it was a big saving on buying the parts.

My brother was debating buying one of the Forge World "realm of battle" tiles* whilst we were over at GWHQ, he was torn between the crashed Thunderhawk and one that looked like it would make a good setting for a landing pad/knight repair bay, in the end he didn't, but one of our friends bought another 8 of the (new?) Zone Mortalis tiles to go with the 16 he bought a few years back (he's got a garage full of scenery and models from the last 25 years).

I'll try and get the pictures I took uploaded tonight or tomorrow as I always find having a look at GW's scenery gives me ideas, especially the set pieces they do to show off new models, and they had some cracking necromunda stuff.
Also apparently car laquer is great for making something look like it's wet, and thinned down paints applied to upright tanks etc then sprayed with a mister/sprtzer bottle allowing the paint to flow with gravity and dabbing up the excess to get the look of something that has leaked.

*He's got both the standard sets (the city one looks awesome when painted).

For those whI are regular collectors of GW stuff how much will I be looking at for a set of paints and brushes to be able to do the models some justice and what sort of paints I should be picking up?

Not just the £75 i’ll Have to spend getting paints and brushes etc as well is putting me off a little bit.

Erm you can probably get away with maybe 5-10 paints to get started (plus a can of Halfords black primer), so £20-40 for paints, and another £10-15 for the basic brushes I think.
I tend to use either Citadel paints, or Vallejo ones, you can get some "starter" paint sets from GW for some of the armies which include a brush (some with cutter) and the basic half dozen or so colours in 3ml sample pots (normal pots are 12ml) for a tenner or so.

A 12ml paint pot will typically last you a long time:)

They also do a paint app which can (from memory) give you a list of the paints you need for various colour schemes.

Also, look at places like Element Games as they'll usually do free shipping over £80 and usually do everything at a discount, the only thing is some GW models are "direct only" (usually characters/special ones), but the likes of Element will carry/be able to get any of the normal bits.

It's not exactly cheap to get started but you'll only need to buy the occasional brush if you take some care of them, and paints can last years, I used about 3 pots of the base colour for my nids to do around 150 models (admittedly I thinned them for airbrush use but you lose a lot to overspray/cleaning with the airbrush).

If you want to go super cheap you can get away with black, white and the three primaries. If you want to go cheap then look at Vallejo paints or Warcolors, stay away from GW.

A few pics of one of the Necromunda displays, the pics really don't do it justice as I'm terrible at taking photos and the lighting wasn't great.

Not great pictures but I loved that display and talking to the guys who made it I got the impression they enjoyed working on it.

I'll put the pics of one of the Necromunda tables they had out in spoilers to save people scrolling massively :)
