Gamespot editor fired for low scores

all i wanted to know. so where is the best website/forum to go to for this sort of thing? like decent honest reviews?

You're better off just looking at user-submitted reviews, or visiting video games forums such as this one or NeoGAF. Basically, listening to the gamers instead of the people being paid to have an opinion (which, most of the time, isn't even theirs).

You have to use a blend of of everything but increasingly its coming down to experience.

Not with the big games, like COD4 and Crysis these titles are there to be knocked down if they are tripe, but something like kane and lynch is a prime example of doing a lot of research first.

I don't really have a problem with that review, it's pretty much spot on if you ask me. I finished the game last night. I only read that summary posted above, I didn't watch the video review if there was one.

Personally i can't stand user reviews, most of them are more biased than games journos. Half the time you get reviews from people who haven't even played the game, then you get little kids saying it's too hard or hardcore gamers saying it's over too quickly when they completed it during a marathon 12hr session.

I put more faith in journalists reviews, yes they may overstate how good some games are but it's generally easy to see when they do so.

For the record i put my faith in PCZone, Games TM and EGM.

Interesting, I haven't trusted Gamespot's review scores for a while to be honest. I quite like Gametrailers however, they were honest enough to point out that both Gametrailers and Rock Band have the same parent company at the start of the review.

Never trust paid gaming 'journalists' .

Well Jeff was one you could trust and look whats happened to him. If Eidos spent more time making sure their games were good instead of trying to sway review websites with financial incentives we would have better games.

I stopped bothering with reviews since the late 90's, PS1 days. It was blatantly obvious most of the time the reviews were biased. Or maybe I just have a low tolerance of badly produced, crap games.

*edit* removed link as i forgot it had swearies, check todays Penny Arcade :)

does anyone ever watch xleaguetv sky 279 was watching games night last night and they seemed really honest said k&l story and idea was good but gameplay graphics let it down which made it average. one of the reviewer said he'd of rather played a ps1 game. and they stamped all over prostreet.

gave up on reviews when they marked games down on things like lack of MP, my interests are my own and il play what takes my fancy.

besides some of those numptys game R+C:TOD 7/10, blasphemy.

i dont mind IGN to give me a general indication of game goodness...

but WHY do the IGN (AU) reviews always get a higher score, somethimes by as high as 0.4 higher than the US version review, yet its the same game!:!:!:!

agh

I never listen to reviews I listen to people on here and other forums.

Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and you bought a **** game, but you wouldn't think PEs 2008 would have been that **** and HALo 3 that over hyped.

You live and you learn.
