Hi all,

I am new to this forum and also to building a gaming rig - I have played around with computers quite a bit but never built one from scratch!

I was just wondering if any experts/gamers could possibly have a look over the components I have researched and see any glaring errors in compatibility or any recommendations. I have approx £950 to spend and I am pretty much on budget with just a hard drive to buy at a later date as I already have a small one for operating system:

CASE: Antec Three Hundred - £50 (already purchased)

CPU: i7 950 3.06 GHz, 8MB Cache - £227

MOTHERBOARD: ASUS P6X58D-E - Intel X58 - £153

PSU: Corsair HX Series, 620 Watt - £113

MEMORY: Corsair (TR3X6G1600C9) 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz XMS3 - £74

GAPHICS CARD: Sapphire HD5850 1GB Graphics Card - £169

CPU COOLER: Thermaltake Frio CPU Cooler - £41

HD: 80G SATA II Drive (already have)

DVD: Samsung SH-S223C 22X SATA Dual layer DVD Writer DVD±RW Black -£11

Think that is all, any help would be much appreciated.

Oh and I have an anti-static strap and mat to help complete the build without any expensive mistakes.

I know the DVD drive is not great but I figured for £11 it will do until I can get together some more money for blue ray.

Cheers,

awfallen

Thanks for the feedback guys and I can only apologise for the amazon links and not overclockers, I shall try and create a basket on here too and compare differences.

As for the PSU, I have decided to take your words of wisdom (I agree with chuggerboom in that the HX620 got a lot of good reviews as this is what I based my decision on) so I have decided to go with his bigger brother for less money! Nice work stulid!

PSU: Corsair CMPSU-650HXUK 650W - £93.82

Just checking, does the CPU cooler look OK? Doe the weight of coolers affect the MB and how can I reduce the effect of this?

The Sandy Bridge CPU series (after googling) still isn't out yet - do we know expected elease dates. Also, would it be worth waiting for? Would it be the ame LG1366 chipset which could b upgraded in a few yars time?

Cheers

@Liampope - so are there any clear leaders for the 1155/P67 chip in terms of motherboards? Any partiularly easy for first time gamin pc builds with interest in OCing for he first time?

OK, I have been reading up quite a bit and think I will go for the:

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor with FREE Lost Planet 2 PC Game - Retail [BX80623I52500K]...
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-360-IN
...over the i7-950. I think this is a wise choice and from what I can interpret (and with no knowledge of the future market) the lg1155 chipset should be around a few years?!

I am thinking the:
Asus P8P67 PRO Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge) [4719543177754]...
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-432-AS
...based on my pevious research about the P6X58D-E and this review: http://techreport.com/articles.x/20190

What are people thinking about the sandybridge tech - remembering my only pc at current is a 4 and a half year old MSI Mega Book S262!!

Oh, and finally, if I go with this motherboard would the Frio CPU cooler still fit?

cheers,

OK, I have placed my order with OC.co.uk!!

Can't wait for the parts now!

Went with Asus P8p67 Pro, i5-2500k...lets hope it all works out well! Cheers for all advice.
