tbh this aint a new thing, the rehash of games with improved graphics has been happening for years. For me the best time was around the late 90s early 2000. We had hl, the rise of cs, inventive new games like home world, black n white (ok had its problems but it was still great), total war. Plus loads of others that I cant remember. Since then theres been very little in terms of new ideas. For example I love RTS but the fact is they have changed v little since C&C and Im just bored so I aint touched any of the new ones. I suppose there has been the odd gem now and then, morrowind (which is just a copy of older elder scroll games), nexus, portal and wow (not my cup of tea but its certainly made its mark on gaming).
I think online games are a little different however as they are v dependant on the team/comunity you are playing in, rather than the quality of te game its self. Before this point is made about "PC gaming being dead" consoles (with the exception of the wii) are terribly repeative and 99% of games appear to complete trash. I suppose they can get away with it to some degree tho as they are selling to a new generation of games. As appose to a lot of PC games that have seen the ideas over and over.
As said above it really comes down to story for me now.
