Feeling very out of the loop regarding Cherry switches on mechanical keyboards! Get the impression that "blacks" are the harshest?

Qpad MK-50 "black" or Zalman ZM-K500 ("red" equivalant?) for someone new to mech kbs?

Clunky, not great to be honest. If it had red switches I would have nabbed one for work too.

They need to be plugged into a USB port to work. Had to plug mine into the monitor to avoid awful static, and hiss.

Not sure what open cup means. The outer dome is grilled if that's what you mean.

Thanks, the static issue is a strange one. Open cup means as it sounds the ear cup allows sound in and out (so you can hear outside sounds and people can hear what your listening to).

Just got my MK-85 - first ever mechanical keyboard - super impressed and glad I made the jump from the X4 to this. Unfortunately a little scratch/defect on the spacebar and left shift keys. Had the same problems with a Bitfenix Shinobi case (the soft touch black finish).
