Gaming Moments You Will Never Forget:

It's gotta be a GPL moment for me too!

When I played in the UKGPL league a good few years ago. I had modem problems, so unfortunately discoed from a majority of the races in my season, but did one at Mosport... In league division 2 (out of 5), in the full hour's qualifying session, I put myself 2nd or 3rd on the grid (out of 15-16 cars), raced a full length race which took an hour and a half of solid concentration, fell back a bit after a silly spin, and then spent about half an hour clawing back a 15 second gap to someone, before finally passing them and finishing 3rd.

I was exhausted, doing 70-80 odd laps of that track in GPL, with only one little spin on lap 3 or 4. All my times were within a second or two of each other... Miss that game now :(

pretty similar to others:

oot: getting epona / the forest/shadow/spirit temples - awesome atmosphere
goldeneye 007 with 3 mates
buying banjo kazzoie for the 5th time and never letting it leave my collectioon again (the definitive platform game imo)
playing HL1 for the first time, like, 3 years after its release and not being able to stop playing for like 6 hours
We dont go to ravenholme/nova prospect
various WoW raid first kills on new bosses - Nefarian/Ragnaros/Patchwerk spring to mind
the odd rounds of CSS where you end up being the last man standing against numerous oponents and win it for the team

Final Fantasy 7: Well the obvious bit, naturally. But everything to do with Vincent's story as well. And one moment I especially remember was just before the final descent into the Crater, when Tifa's resting her head on Cloud's shoulder. I think the complexity and tenderness of their relationship is a triumph of gamer storytelling.

Final Fantasy X: The ending. I know it's not as popular as VII, but the ending of X ruined me. I actually cried, FFS!

Quoted for the truth. I thought those two moments were amazing! :)

Planetside: Killing 8 people who drove up to the base entrance in a Sunderer, with A KNIFE. Pwnage.
Planetside: Me and my mate holding off an entire army (40+ people, Galaxy dropship, Predators, Reavers, the works) by ourselves at Wakea. After an hour they gave up!
Played!

That was heart wrenching :(

Oblivion: Getting out of the sewers for the first time, and feeling the hairs on my neck stand up in apprehension, wonder and amazement. So much adventure awaiting you!
Aye, I remember the feeling :)

That twist in a certain Star Wars RPG.

Quite possibly the best crafted scene in any video game ever to date, and I've played all the greats, classics, etc. Those who know what I'm talking about are priveledged, the rest are unwashed heathens. :p
My friend ruined that for me at the very beginning of the game. He said (SPOILER - highlight to read):
"You should call yourself Revan, because that's your actual name."
I didn't immediately realise the signigicance, but when I did...

(1) Completing Super Mario World(snes) with no cheats and seeing the " YOU ARE A SUPER PLAYER" written in coins on the last level.

(2) Playing Virtua Racing(Arcade) for the first time , jesus that sensation was amazing , 3d gaming was here.

(3) Super Mario Kart(snes) , playing the multiplayer chase game popping each others balloons , omg I never laughed so hard , what a game........(Shigeru Miyamoto is a genius).

(4) First time I fired up my PS1 and seeing an Arcade Perfect(almost) port of Ridge Racer on my own telly , omg that owned.

(5) Fitting my first 3d accelerator and firing up GLQuake , awesome , "OMG everythings all smooth no pixelation" <----bilinear filtering ;p

(6) Playing probably the greatest game of all time Super Mario 64 , just...........wow ........what an achievement.

(7) Getting DSL before almost anybody(got the trial in early 99) and just plain owning everyone at insta UT CTF , joining clan and winning clanbase cups and leagues etc , damn I miss it so much , no other game has grabbed me like playing UT matches did , awesome game shame 2003 & 2004 suck by comparison. (imo)

Zelda Ocarina of Time - pretty much what everyone has said. So much depth to it.

Oblivion - the whole 'invasion' feel to the game. Random RAI moments.

KOTOR - Everyone says "that moment" not sure what "that moment" is but there are a lot of great moments. Its the only game I could fully play over and over and over.

Battlefield 1942 - Jeeps vs Tanks who would've thought the Jeep could win? ;)

Super Mario Kart - Because thats all me and my brother and his friends did all day Saturday :D

WoW - Low levels first time i started playing. All the new stuff. Wish i could erase my memory and do it again. Just like that first experience of all the new things like seeing Goldshire.

Quake 1 - Because its the first time i got to play a multiplayer game...Pentium 100mhz, 1mb GFX card...32mb ram! :D

FF7 - First getting to cosmo canyon, the sound track on that game is amazing. This game was epic, from the second i bought the game, opening the box with all them disks was just a thrill of excitement :)

Half Life 1 - Talking to people, they would then follow you and help you out, this was all new to me at the time. And the marines throwing grenades back etc, that was just fantastic. The bit in the vent too!, thats just so cool :D

Counter Strike beta 5.2 onwards - Back at the start there was some brilliant maps, Jail, tundra etc. The community was smaller back then, but much more tightly knit. I used to play with great groups of people and we had some serious fun. Not very often you can get a server of people all co operating and making human towers etc these days :)

Mortal Combat - First time i saw this game was in a Quasar laser place, It was just a sole cabinet in the corner when i was there and i remember thinking it was amazing. When you swept people it looked like they were falling over properly.. it seemed so real!

My memory isn't what it once used to be.... highlights:

Killing 4 enemies at once in CS:S with a nade

Twist at the end of FF3 on the DS

Starcraft... most of it really

The radio controlled helicopter mission on GTA:VC

Getting a 930hp mitsubishi GTO in Gran Turismo

Completing Unirally (Still one of my most fondly remembered games of all time)

Completing Super Mario World

Beating my sister at Mario Kart battle one handed, repeatedly

First time I played Quake at a mate's house

First time I played HL at a mate's house

Falling instantly in love with Mario 64 as soon as I got my hands on the controller

First time playing my OWN copy of HL on my brand new computer I bugged my parents for solely to play that game

Getting into TFC

Randomly walking around Cyrodil for an hour after I got out of the tutorial dungeon in Oblivion and just being endlessly impressed

Command and Conqouer - Counterstrike, I remember almost gettin mugged buying the game, apart from that me and my mate used to discuss tactics for maps.

HL 5.2+, doing mass cliff dives from de_prodigy while on the phone to a lad from wales and my mate who lives down the road.

FF7 I was the first from my group to kill emerald weapon and it wasnt even my PS :D

Zelda - oricale of time - when you get the unbreakable big sword and use it on mirror link.

HL2 - The citedal(sp?)

the original GT - Just because :o

The original mortal kombat because it was awesome.

Mario 64 as it was so different to what came before.

System shock 2 - I never poo'd my self so much during a game.

Thats it for now i think.

KaHn

1. The start of Half life 2 when you're just walking around with your jaw smack to the floor as your head melts at the level of detail
2.Tomb Raider 1 - You climb then shimmy down a wall then you are in the valley of the dinosaurs. Awesome!
3.Goldeneye - 4 player as a student. Spent many nights with NO sleep!!
4.Doom - On playstation.
5. Resident evil - when the devil dogs jump through the glass and you crap yourself!

Yeah half life 2 is stunning, with the telephone cables blowing in the wind, and birds in the sky etc. Gorgeous game even 2 years down the line. Source engine is a masterpiece.

Also. Playing goldeneye at Kahns on his n64, and lylat wars. both great :)

  • Getting over 1700 kills for the first time in Lylat Wars on the N64 (i hit the roof cheering :D That was insanely hard to achieve, took me months of trying.
  • Super Mario 64 - What a game!
  • The opening FMV for FFX, that got me hooked on FF games as well as drooling all over the control :D
  • Undocking in Eve-Online for the first time (easter 2004) and realising how BIG the game really was and still playing today.
  • Goldeneye (N64) - Nuff Said!
  • Playing Super Mario Kart on the SNES for the first time! wow!
  • First linked game of Red Alert on the PS against a friend. 85 Medium Tanks vs's 40 Mammoth Tanks and ending in a perfect stalemate. My last tank blew up and left a bloke who shot his last tank who dropped a bloke, then killed each other :) While this happened, he snuck 4 thieves into a silo of mine and stole over 150'000 credits :p I lost :p

Just felt inclined to post up again.

Killer Instinct on the SNES. Pulling off my first ultra combo (21 hits).

Just relived it with my mate the other night. At least 5 years since we played against each other and what do I go and do? :D
