Gaming Monitor - What Size?

Kirkster - yeah thats the one , long telephoto shot from what I dont know. Jetpack astronaut ?...so 1980s ha, don't believe they used them too much in recent shuttle missions.

(I recommend googling space shuttle screensaver 1920x1080 on google images for a widescreen version, the ones on the link you mentioned are non wide-screen formats)

slightly O/T but I found it strange how after gaming at 1680 * 1050 for years, changing to 1920*1080 hasn't significantly reduced my framerates ...I would have thought fps was proportional, or is not that simple ? :D

ive just gone from 1920 x 1200 to 2560 x 1440 and noticed only a slight drop depends on how hard the cards were working at 1920 i guess may they were not being pushed enough now they are but still seem to handle it ok for now still going to change back to nvidia though as soon as i can .

still looking for that illusive 120hz high res 27"

Me too dude

I've just replaced my 24" Dell S2409W 1920x1080 with a 27" Samsung S27A950D. Even at the same resolution it does not look stretched at all. The colours are awesome and 120Hz is just stunning! Well worth it!

I had the Dell U2711 for about 2 weeks, Im a gamer and going from 120hz display to IPS was quite disappointing for me tbh, u2711 had one of the most accurate colors i've seen and the build quality was 2nd to none, but as far as gaming goes, I don't think it's ideal at all, im not sure about other IPS panels but u2711 is not a good gaming monitor. I'm still going through different 120hz panels in the hope to find the best one, but from what I used so far, ( Asus VG278H, Samsung S27A950D, Benq XL2420TX ) I think 24 inch is better for 1080P in my eyes.

wooot shoulda gone to spec savers set the u2711 up and its awesome been gaming since sinclair spectrums and have 4 screens atm, and at high res u2711 its brill. a screen at low res 1080 is rubbish is that just its low res

i get not lag jitter tearing etc etc at 60hz but the resolution far outwieghs 1080p stuff by a large margin i think its down to how people set up their screens and resolutions ( and personal preferences ofc)

i wouldnt dream of playin at 1080p on a 27. 1200 on a 24 ok above that even 1200 is pushing it.

yuch but again its personal pref..

even the cat leap boys (grts) are sayin wooooooahhh 2560x 1440 is awesomeness
and they are really cheap lower grade screens .. but good luck to them if they get a good deal..

but look at the majority of opinions on high res gaming ... its wooooooah this is awesome... compared to low res stuff... high res is where its at.... !!!

like i keep sayin 120hz x 1440p on a 27 (quality one) is the way forward..

He probably means from a very competitive fps point of view in which case he's purely right.I tried 60hz again the other day, utterly horrible for me but if people like their higher resolutions then fairplay to them....if you use the monitor for gaming/movies/photowork basically bits of everything then 1440p is ideal but for pure gaming nothing else then 120hz is a definite choice but i do agree with the 1080p on 27 inch being not so good.(it's fine on 24 inch though)

yer i think its the crossover point in all honesty 24 - 27

24 at 120"hz kiks ass but at 27" you need the higher res at 1440 maybe

thh tho i cant see any probs with fps at my res.. dependent on the game but if my fps drops below like 80-100 i will go get new cards atm im ion a pair of rubbish 5770hds and they are not what i like but they were a stop gap cause i fried one of my nvidias but im getting a pair of 680 wc soon as poss so i dont think frame rate will be a prob or at least i hope not

i play all on high res and ultra normally when i can in most stuff.. and the ati dont cut it but will see

i could drop the res to 1080 and get massive framerates but then the picture quality at 1080 on the u27 or my other 27 or my 24 is not what i like for me its got to be 1440 from now on

added

i am getting another monitor soon so will go for a 120 hz 1080 untill the high res versions come out so will be able to give an even better view of the 1080 at 120 then but i dont like playing at 1080 60 hz thats for sure
it will only be for 3d stuff tho not for my main system

time will tell

I have also had a dell u2711 and hated it due to the anti glare coating. I decided to sell it and go for the benq xl2420t as i do also think 24" is better for gaming when you sit close to the monitor. I found that when i had the 27" dell i ended up moving it further away as i couldnt take it all in, therefore defeating the object.

Its up to you doo but if you play fps's the 24" benq is ace.
