gaming mouse

I would say gaming mice are worth it.

However it probably is more important to get a mouse you are comfortable with using than one with as high a DPI as possible.

A good mouse will not turn you from zero to hero in games, but it will help you. Also it can be a while to get used to certain ones.

My favourite mice currently are the copperhead or the logitech G5.

The copperhead is nice its unihanded so if your a leftie you wont suffer with it. I dont like the weight its way to light. It is very high resolution and you can set it so very small movements produce a lot of motion. Also whicever hand you use the buttons by your little finger are awkward to use.

The G5 I much prefer, the changeable weights are great. Although I made it as heavy as I could. Less buttons than the Copperhead, I depend on mice buttons a lot, and more the better, the MX1000 was fantastic for buttons. The side scrolling on the wheel is nice. Although I dislike the way the scroll wheel works on the G5. I have never got that scroll wheel to be as responsive as I like and never quite managed to stop the thing shifting a whole page of screen with each step, no matter what options I change.

In summary I prefer the G5 despite hating the scroll wheel with a passion. The weight and being slightly larger are more comfortable for me.

The Copperhead feels too light, and just doesnt seem to be as nice to use as the G5. However it has more thumb buttons, and is ambidextrous.

On mouse mats. Get a nice mat, again its not going to make you a gaming god, but its all about your comfort. Those horrible plasticy things of the past are gone, ok a good mouse will work on most surfaces and you wont really notice much difference in motion pick up between a cheap mat and the most ultra accurate mat you can buy. However they will beat trying to use a mouse on the back of magazine.

Saying all of that I can really recommend using a glass mat. Teflon feeted mice on a nice glass ice mat. It is as the name suggests, like using your mouse on a nice smooth surface of ice, it really glides over the mat. Any other surface will feel scratchy and horrible after using one of those.

So in my opinion get an icemat, get a new G5 with the extra buttons, make it heavy and just glide the mouse around.

The reason the G5 annoys me is because of the stupid move sideways middle mouse button.

Anyway to get this changed? =<

best mouse is the deathader, set your mouse drivers to 2000dbi and set your ingame sens to something your use to, thats how a gamers mouse should be set up.

lol anyone else here hate the G5 mousewheel? bet everyone with one does

I don't understand why they did it. That's the problem with office companies making gaming products.

I recently changed my mouse from a MX510 to the Deathadder and I find the Deathadder to be the more comfortable mouse with the tracking being spot on. The deathadder is 1800dpi mouse and not a 2000dpi and uses a 3rd generation optical tracker as opposed to laser based tracker.

I recently bought a razer diamond back, to replace an MS intelli optical I bought about 7 years ago.

tbh the new mouse proved a bit of hassle but thats perhaps more brand specific than addressing the original question!

Yep, the new mouse did feel more "responsive" I cant deny that. Did it make me a better gamer. Nope! I found the greater sensitivity actually made game play harder! Mind you I only used it for a week or so - perhaps in time I would have got used to it.

I think the only way to be sure is to borrow or buy a mouse and try for yourself because everyone has their own tale to tell...!

For the record I exclusively play UT based games, and am particularly driven towards 'hitscan' accuracy. It reality I rearely think, "darn I would have made that shot if only my mouse was more responsive", for the most part any failure to make a shot is my own sleepy reflexes or more often... laaaaaaag!!!

just a hint for high dpi's

A good use of them is to set the mouse speed low in either windows or the configuration program, and the dpi up.

Unless im going completely crazy reducing the mousespeed and upping dpi should give you more resolution across a smaller movement area. ;) Well it works for me.

it makes you better and takes time to get used to it without a doubt

a bad bf2 player bought a diamondback and thought it would make him amazing. it did make him alittle better but not what he thought rofl :p

i went from a mouse which i thaught was amazing it felt so nice compaired to other mice even tho it was just a standard logitech mouse for a fiver.

and i went to a 1600dpi razer diamondback and wow, i still havent got used to it at full sensitivity yet lol.

its a truely good mouse deffinetly worth getting a gaming mouse rather than a standard mouse

I've got the G7 which is basically the same but wireless and I don't find the mouse bothers me at all. However I'm a long way from a pro-gamer and that is why I don't bother myself about a mousemat either I guess. :)

I have to say I've not been impressed with the Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0, the overall build quality and feel to it felt so horrible compared to my MX518. Also I've had some issues after 1 day of using this mouse, it cuts out when playing games and the right click seems dodgy, goes off without touching it.

So I've went right back the the 518 and it feels so much better. I thought I'd like the Intelli 3.0 as i prefer low sens but it just doesn't feel great, too cheap! I know I'm just unlucky with the other issues with the mouse but, not thinking about that i can safely say the MX518 is so much better quality in every way.

The MS mouse, i got from OcUK, will i be able to get a refund or will i only get an RMA, as it's definitely not functioning right.

bought 2 copperheads in the past had the same problem with both of them the middle mouse button kept on snapping as they use plastic or something similar to keep it in place, now using a G5 but i cant seem to get used to it. been 4 months now decided to go back to razor and try out the deathadder
but honestly nobody needs the 2000dpi in game as its far too sensitive. think the best mouse u could buy is 1 you feel comfortable with. for me its the razer shape mouse's.
