Gaming on an i7? you're doing it wrong

My 3930K has been the best component i've ever bought. I got it right after release almost 4 years ago and it's still very much relevant today!!

Thinking the same about my 870 tbh (only had it a month) it's a very old CPU by today's standards but the difference in usage running GTA V compared to my old (very old!) Q8300 is remarkable!

It rocks, then again it should, it was ~ £400 when new, to my mind I'd expect it to still be relatively good today and I'm pleased that it is. :)

Cpu's seem to be either stuck in the same rut as gpu's with dinky performance upgrades or Intel in particular are half assing it because of AMD not being competitive currently.

I bought an i5 2500K (Sandybridge) the day after Ivybridge was released. Cost me about £30 less for the "old tech" CPU. Runs fast (4.6Ghz) and quiet on a cheap cooler. No need or intention to change it at the moment.

This isnt true. Some games show big games on an i7. I went from a 2500k to a 3770k at the same clock speed and saw big gains (more than just the 10% IPC gain) in some games ( BF4 mulitplayer and Crysis 3 as examples).
