There is only one thing that annoys me about installing games, Direct X!

Can they not design a frigging installer that checks first wether the version of DX its trying to install is already installed!

Apart from stand-alone games I only use steam. I find it great as it auto-updates all my games, minimal system resources and is just a good piece of software

The only part of that that annoys me is false positives from punkbuster. Getting kicked in the middle of a game when totally innocent is rather annoying.

None of the other stuff really matters as it installs / checks so quickly anyway.

Only thing from above i use is steam, and i believe COD4 may have installed Punkbuster.

Yes I agree with the OP - punkbuster suxxx. I have reverted to not installing it and playing cod4 on non pb servers. Yes i'd rather put up with the hackers - if they are on my team theres no problem anyway, plus it kind of makes it more fun.

Also steam is too slow @ launching.

Games for windows is something i actually like

The worst culprit of recent times is the painful installation and registering for GTA IV.
I want to install the game and play by myself.
I do not want to show off my achievements to people I don't know!
I do not want to subscribe to an online 'club' to read latest news about last year's patch!
I do not want to register to upload movies I have not recorded!
I JUST WANT TO PLAY THE DAMN GAME!!!!
