why would i derail wen hes been mostly told to go i7. thats quality advice.

i7 950 and an Asus Sabertooth board and your flying m8.

Er, look at the date i wrote that - back when you were derailing every thread with anti AMD/i5 ranting, and your strange idea that any build over £1000 must have an i7, 'cos it's the best, innit?' :)

Today, an i7 930 costs 53% more than an i5 760 for the CPU alone, then you need a more expensive mobo and more RAM. All for an absolute max of 25% better performance in perfectly multi-thread-optimised number crunching apps. In games, performance gain is 0%, and even if HT 'kicks in' you'll never see that full 25% gain due to the way games are coded. If anyone wants to spend all that extra for such a small potential (currently non-existant)performance gain in gaming, then have to go for a cheaper GPU which really will loose them some performance, then who am I to stop them! All I can do is point to the facts/tests/benchmarks and allow people to make an informed decision. Or in the case of Jake, ignore the facts/tests/benchmarks and splash the cash on i7 to feel good about having 'the best'. Ever heard the phrase 'all the gear, no idea'? :)

two GTX470 will completely destroy every game, so will GTX460 in sli.

Go i5 and you can also get a SSD at the same time.

what do you all think to the changes i have made to my build as i have saved money for an up grade next year if i want to.but taking everything in what you all have said(not every one)i think i will be okay with that set up for years to come??. i want your feed back on the changes i have made bedfore i order all parts,O should i pick up or get the parts delivered??

what termole paste should i use and what CPU cooler should i go for? i would like something like the H50,but only as it look's fancy i will want to over clock this pc.well me and a friend lol

is the motb the best one to get ???as that need to be good .

thanks for ALL you in put

BIG THANKS EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the board you have selected doe snot do sli symmetrically(8x/8x). the msi p55-gd60/80 does. you could down the psu to a 650w and not sure if youve mentioned tht ur not overclocking but a nice sub £20-30 aftermarket cooler would be nice.

As above - for SLI you need a slightly better P55 board. MSI GD65 or GD80, but these dont have USB3/SATA3. Gigabyte UD5 an excellent choice if you can stretch to that. You can certainly save enough to cover that on the PSU and still get a very high quality PSU.

Dont get those 460s - you can get 1GB versions for the same price!! An absolute doddle to overclock them to the 'superclocked' speeds yourself - dont pay for it! Get 1GB models or save money and get cheaper 768MB models - the Asus on offer for £115 are an absolute steal.

I'd also stick with 1600MHz RAM like Corsair XMS3 - getting RAM up to 2000MHz can be a royal pain in the bum, even if it is 'rated' that high, for a tiny performance gain. If you want to spend a little more go for tighter timing C8 or C7 1600MHz RAM, but the C9 will be fine and is excellent value for money.

memory is expensive compared to this stuff - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-203-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

you just wont need ram of that speed.

the psu is overrated for that spec, but I suppose it will cope with even bigger graphics cards, should the time come?

right all am off to bed on nights this week, thanks everyone for helping me out!!!

Only one per customer for those EVGA cards, so unless you have a friend who can order one, forget it. To be honest a 10 year warranty is a pointless gimmick. In 10 years you'll be using the worthless things as door stops, if you didn't already sell them 6-7 years ago. Just get the OCUK Value or Gigabyte.

Modxstream gets decent reviews and good for the money. Will easily power 2x 460. Probably wouldn't quite manage two beasts like 480s, but if you ever go that route you can upgrade the PSU if neccessary. Imho, no need to buy more than you need now just to carry it along for the ride unused to its full capabilities for a few years, whilst eating into its life/warranty.

For cooling, a circa £35 air cooler will be fine for 4GHz on the i5. Something like Akasa Nero or Titan Fenrir, but I'm no expert on air coolers - I have a H50.

i will be able to get some one else to order me that other evga cards so not a problem

what do you all think to my list now???

morning all is there anything else i need to buy? need some input please as i want to order soon:D

Looks very good. I believe that PSU only has 2x 6/8 pins for GPUs, which means you'll have to use some of the molex adaptors that come with the GPUs. This might look a little untidy and if that bothers you you could either get some 6/8 pin extensions which would allow you to hide the molex adaptors out of sight, or go for a PSU that has 4 6/8 pin leads. XFX do off the top of my head. That's a big case, so you might also consider getting a CPU 8-pin extension too just in case the one from your PSU doesn't reach all the way up there.

i think you should buy extentions for your psu to make sure the power leads for your board reach. I got them to be safe and ended up using 1.
