Gaming/Photo Editing PC Upgrade Advice

Hi All,

I'm doing a completely new build in the next couple of weeks and was hoping to get some build advice as i'm completely out of the game components-wise. I use my current PC for Gaming and Photo Editing but it's on it's last legs so starting fresh and donating this to my girlfriend! My budget is £3000.00 including a monitor. Appreciate any suggestions you guys can make!

So I've gone 1440p with the 4080 super to give you plenty FPS but could move up to 4k. Intel 14700k which is a better all rounder and thrashes the 7800x3d at encoding though I'm sure someone will do you an AM5 build.

Scope in budget to upspec if required and windows keys can be had cheap.

if this is a buy and forget till your next upgrade, I went with a 14700k build, 1440p qdoled 27" new monitor. They're meant to be very colour accurate too... I'd maybe go with the asus model which is even more colour accurate, though ocuk don't seem to have it...

Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM 27" 240Hz​

put 2 2tb ssd in there, so you can keep your photo's and games seperate
went with a 4070ti super as more than enough for a 1440p monitor, and also has 16gb vram so should help with longevity also
I'd originally looked at the msi tomahawk as a mobo, but the asus on offer cheaper..sure their other cheaper option

you could save money downgrading to a 4070 super, such as the zotac twin edge at £550​

of course, big one is the monitor also, and just drop to a ips display..it's just once you go on a qdoled or oled dispay, it's hard to go back​

other option would be going for something like the 42" C3. being 4k, the pixel density will be similar to the 27in 1440p monitor, and you can pick one up for £750is, saving £250, which I'd then upgrade to a 4080super...they're about £950 odd, so will actually be cheaper, though you'll be limited to 120hz, but still get instant reponse time, and being oled, those deep blacks...should be able to calibrate it to be colour accurate too​

The monitor sounds good for photo editing, but I'd recommend you do some research because monitor choice is very important for professional use and since you're happy to play at 1080p, maybe more important than the rest of your PC!

and there's @mickyflinn doing exactly that with an ips monitor ...went along same lines of 14700k though...realised i missed cooler..i'd prob go 360mm arctic freezer 3. I struggled with whether 64gb ram needed as photo editing, not video editing

Soon as I see editing I automatically go 64gb lol.

Don't forget my monitor is 1440p you went 4k so props to you.

My working assumption is that for 3D work nvidia is best, but for 2D you can go either, but that's just something I got from watching this guy:

Great point.

Gaming I lean towards the 4080 super over the 7900 xtx , dlss and ray tracing edges for me.

I'd imagine that nvidia's studio/professional drivers are more developed too and I don't know if there are differences in the colour defaults and options that they apply compared to the gaming drivers.
