Gaming SFF?

Here's my finished article, so the bar has been set Killswitch. :p

Cable management in this case is a nightmare, I haven't any cable sleeving and the local computer shops don't seem to have any either. I'd order from OcUK but I'd like to think my tastes are slightly better than neon green cable sleeving that looks like somebody has squashed a frog inside the case. :p

Route as many cables as you can under the motherboard (Mobo power, CPU power, front panel header stuff if it'll stretch) and then use the holes in the ODD tray to tidy the rest. I've got the SATA cables weaved through the holes on the left, while the PCIe power cable goes up on to the right side of the drive tray, down through the hole at the front and is tucked between the fan and bottom of the ODD tray. It's exactly the right length for this and reaches the right spot with very little slack. There's quite a few little spots to tidy cables in to if you look at the case in the right way.

I'll see if I can get some pics sorted tomorrow, because re-reading that it makes little sense. My case isn't that tidy at the moment though, waiting on a replacement CPU and couldn't be bothered to do it for what will only be a week or two.

You know this case, what can it fit? like graphics card ect?

Single-slot low-profile. Antec fail.

Cheers, I think I saw your case in the Sugo thread and it was one of the neatest ones. At the moment I'm waiting on some cable sleeving and some of the heat shrink for the ends. When I take some pics later I'll have to tidy it a little as it's still a bit of a spaghetti junction in there. I think it would help matters if I didn't have the 5850 crammed in but it's necessary. :p

Right then, here's a few pics, I'm far from happy with the cabling and this is just a temporary solution until I order some more sleeving and heat shrink for the ends on the cables to de-messify the situation. The only cable at the moment that is causing the mess is the motherboard power cable which seems to be way, way too long for a case as small as this one. Also the two 6 pin connectors to the graphics card are a bit messy but it was such a challenge getting the card to fit at first, after Tute mentioned taking the front fan out it just slipped in perfectly though. I've managed to sleeve the rest although that's just temporary, a quick fix until I can be bothered to rip it all out and do them properly.

Following suggestions from others I've mounted the PSU upside down so that it's drawing in fresh cold air from the outside instead of air straight from over the motherboard, I'm hoping this will increase the airflow inside the case too although I'll have to monitor temps and see how they go. Also, you may notice that I haven't put the little wifi card on the motherboard, this is because I didn't bother reading the manual and when it came to putting the card in I realised it looks like it has to be screwed in from the underside and seeing as I'd already screwed the board onto the standoffs and put all the components in I couldn't really be bothered to rip it all out just for a neat little aerial. Instead I'm going to have to get along with a USB wireless adapter.

This thread has inspired me to look at downsizing the pc in the living room so it fits nicely on the desk and doesnt irritate the wife as much.

Would prefer to reuse components i already have if possible so looking at going down the AMD route.

Already have:

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955
Geil Value 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Dual Channel
and a GTX 260

Looking at sourcing

Sapphire IPC-AM3DD785G AM3
Scythe Shuriken Rev.B Quiet Low Profile CPU Cooler

Think this would all fit in a SG05B? Would the 300W power supply be beefy enough to run this for general internet use and some moderate gaming?

well im going to get the case ordered asap (sg05) and braid the cables maybe spray it all black, its all new to me so hopefully it all goes well :)

i will be worried about the psu though say a i7, 5850, H50, SSD.. will it be enough watts lol?

a quick question.. i was thinking about cutting the wires down a bit to help out cable management just a thought.. is it worth it? would it help?

I would have a look at the Lian Li PC-Q08:

Here are some more details about the case:

Very doubtful on the PSU mate. The Core 2 Duo and 5850 that I've got is stretching it to it's limit already, not sure what the power consumption is on an i7 but I'm sure it'll be much more than what my rig is currently pumping out. I know the 5850 requires something like 150 watts at load so another 150 for your RAM, HDD, DVD Drive and CPU is not leaving you with a lot. I'd check Silverstone's site regular over the next month or so, they are bringing out a standalone 400 watt PSU for the Sugo which might help you.

Damn,

I read something about a new case coming out cant remember exactly.. the one that fits a 5970 couldn't seem to find a release date as i would be tempted to choose that over the sg05 as it has a better power supply

Do you know the power consumption of the 5970? I know some of the newer cards save power compared to the older ones but the 5970 is a beefy card. I don't quite know what you're after but with these cases you have to make a bit of a compromise. You can't really expect to have a tiny box like the Sugo to have the same sort of hardware as a top spec gaming PC. There's the noise, the heat and the PSU constraints that you'll have to deal with. Also the PSU at the moment only comes with a single 6 pin power connector so that's something to bear in mind as well.

i would never get a 5970 for a small thing like this, im after a small portable gaming computer im stuck between the 5770 and 5850 it will be my main pc for a while and over time i plan to save up for a holiday and a monster computer :)

about 3 months ago i sold my quad core machine which had stuff like a Q6600 + 4850 so i want to top that with the i3,i5 or i7 and a much smaller build

I think you'd be okay with either a fast C2D or an i3, I think an i5 or i7 would push the standard PSU in the Sugo and the uprated PSU isn't available in Europe yet, I don't think. Graphics card wise I'd go for a 5670 or similar. I've tried Fallout 3 on the 5850 and it runs fine with the PSU but I wouldn't like to risk anything that uses more power, in fact, I'm a bit apprehensive about using the 5850 really and I'll be looking to get the uprated PSU when it becomes available. :)

not to keen on the 5670 as the benchmarks don't seem great, After all i be playing games like DIRT 2 the new battlefield ect.. Did think about going the Li Lian Route with a Q07B with a single slot expansion 5670 but i dont think it be powerful enough..

my heads spinning atm on what to buy :) time for some shut eyes before i explode with confusion, Maybe im to picky lol

You might have to get some parts from places other than OcUK. It's against the forum rules to discuss where and to post links though. The last time I checked OcUK didn't have many Silverstone products in stock and they didn't have the Zotac 9300 ITX board either, not sure about the Lian Li cases but I would definitely recommend the SG05B to anyone who is after a small, clean looking case but doesn't want to make a huge compromise on performance.

I've just been playing Fallout 3 for the past hour, max detail settings and the CPU temps fluctuated between 41 and 42, the graphics card went up to 43 from 38 idle so I think that's quite impressive for an air cooled case of this size, definitely impressed. Also, It's been switched on overnight for downloading which has impressed me even more. I'm now going to try Modern Warfare 2 for a bit and I'll report back later with temps and screens of the readings.

EDIT: After around an hour on Modern Warfare 2, the GPU temps rose to 50 and the CPU to the high 40's. Still not bad for such a small case, I'll get some screens up later.

Amazed how much cable clutter there is. Still tempted by this unit, but would prefer it in white or the silver SG-06.

Think I'll hold out and see if it comes bundled with the newer PSU.
