Gaming with a keyboard and mouse isnt that great

Its times like these i want someone to actually end this once and for all and put the best players from the pc and xbox againest eachother in say cod and see who wins!

We was the top WAW team (5K1) on console and ill happily admit the PC games would ruin us. The mouse is way way more accurate.

I like console for the fact its fair no fancy details / setting just raw fair gaming.

For games like Batman or F1 2011 then a pad is best, but for FPS or RTS then k&m just mud hole stomps it.

It needs to way purer than that.

Quake instagib DM/TDM. Minimal map knowledge and gamesense. No real strategy. Pure control.

its already been done...M&K users dominated the game

Lots of people say this, but no-one ever produces the evidence.

Personally, I believe KB+Mouse is superior to pad in FPS, so I'd dearly love to see some compelling evidence of a test of one against the other. I've heard the rumours, but I'd like to see an actual report. It seems like an urban legend at this point.

I've heard from reliable sources that during the development they brought together the best console gamers to play mediocre PC gamers at the same game... and guess what happened? They pitted console gamers with their "console" controller, against PC gamers with their keyboard and mouse.

The console players got destroyed every time. So much so that it would be embarrassing to the XBOX team in general had Microsoft launched this initiative.

I doubt you'll get a press release about it for the reason in the second paragraph. Why would you announce big failed initiative like that?

That said, I'm still unsure why people are still trying to turn this into a console vs PC thread, when it's about two peripherals both available on the PC.

For me it's a no brainer.. I use the peripheral that I feel happiest using for each game, I'd never use a pad for an FPS, and likewise I'd be mad to use a keyboard for a racing game..

Anyone ever play Q3 on the dreamcast? Do you remember it allowing m&k users to play with joypad players, that was some funny stuff, joypad users had no chance.

They are a little better these days but whenever i play cod on xbox live with mates it reminds me how clunky joypad movement is especially at close range trying to turn and fire.

I used to be rank 90 in the world on Black Ops on 360 USING A GAMEPAD, so please understand I am not biased when I say that, while a gamepad can be extremely good in the right hands, in general a KB+M have a higher skill ceiling and finer control, especially in terms of aiming. The analogue nature of the thumbsticks on gamepads do allow for easier modulation of your movement speed which is useful in some games, however there are also a lot of situations where the fact you have 5 fingers with which to press 5 keys at any one time is a much larger advantage. For example, in CoD on Xbox360 you can't crouch/prone at the same time as aiming, or if you use tactical layout then you can, but you forfeight the ability to melee while aiming. With M+KB you can do both easily. For these reasons FPS games are generally much better played with M+KB.

Same goes for RTS games for obvious reasons, I'm sure no-one would argue otherwise.

Some genres which are genuinely better on a gamepad would be most platformers, racing games, flying games (not full flight sims - those are better with M+KB).

try playing tribes ascend with a pad.
there are some circumstances where a pad would be better, driving games or fighting games BUT as a recent convert to pc after playing both xbox and playstation3 since they were released I can safely say K+M me would destroy pad me

Mouse has greater DPI available to it. Its just not going to be equal, other games would make sense but not a shooter which is basically point and click first wins.

I'd like if they could find a way to equalise it, you have to give the console owners a grenade launcher. Maybe they could get shotgun autos and a mouse would be pistol only

That's no way to balance gameplay. Just give console users the possibility of using keyboard / mouse combo. I don't understand why this hasn't been done before tbh. Games like SC2 are just much easier to control that way.

It sorts of defeat the purpose of a console (casual gaming), but at least they'll get the chance to enjoy the freedom of KBM.

Bring MKB support in the SDK, Drop Kinect cr*p.

And no aim assists of course :)

Read through this thread and the fact the OP is trolling seems to get more obvious by the post.

Surely if the OP thinks this way and says these things he should try playing against someone with a KB+M.

It's just common sense, KB+M for FPS. I use the xbox pad for 3rd person type games (Just Cause, Batman, etc) and platformers, but never would dream of it for FPS, its like giving yourself an instant disability, just doesn't enter my mind.

Just started using a gamepad for non-driving games. Was pleasantly surprised in Assassin's Creed 1 & 2, wasn't as frustrating as I'd expected.

Then tried Space Marine which is really weird, you need a mouse to help aiming BUT there is a lot of close combat etc as well which works better on the gamepad, at one point I was using both controllers (running around with pad mostly but then switching to mouse for some extended shooting sections!).

I definitely wouldn't consider using a pad for a standard FPS like Metro2033 though.

These days I prefer a controller for single player, but would use mouse/kb for multiplayer.

It just knackers your back hunched over some horrible pc desk doing intensive gaming with a kb/mouse, rather than reclining with a controller.

I've been playing of games for a long time now...and whilst I have always been a huge keyboard fan I've recently been forced to try other methods. My hands can't use a keyboard for very long without being in considerable pain :/

So I've come up with my own method which is to use the mouse as per normal with my right hand and my left hand on the left side of the Xbox controller. I use the stick to move the trigger to run the d pad for knife etc. Works awesomely in BF3 now that I've perfected it:D Also I use the controller to play most other games, Alan Wake works well with it, so does batman Lego etc.
