Gaming

We like playing games. Games are dead good.

Being better than other people at games is brilliant.

I made a gif of someone winning at games because they are using a great headset.

Look at him winning:

We have tested this headset here at OcUK and for the money, nothing really beats it. Twst was testing this out on his high end audio equipment and comparing it to his £250 Beyerdynamic MMX300 in sound quality.

The headset has won a load of awards too.

Get yourself pumped by watching this video featuring some astonishingly obnoxious dubstep music and professional gaming people wearing this headset.

Whilst these are gaming orientated, they do very well in music. Perhaps better than most things we have tried in the sub £100 category.
We are arranging for a set to be sent to a forum headphone reviewer so they can be reviewed properly by an unbiased OcUK forum member.

Stock is due any day now. Buy one and be just as awesome as the guy in my gif.

What sound card would you recommend with this (and in general for a Stereo headset)?

Do you really need something as high end as a £70+ sound card for headphones or would something simple like a Asus Xonar DGX do the job with the advantage of a headphone amp being built in?

its a can of worms. from what I understand, most lower end soundcards are not much better than on board, they are just louder. its a bit of a tough call.

this is a great video that explains in 20 minutes what I could never really type.

draw your own conclusions from that.

In relation to the headset, we have been using this with a good DAC/AMP combo and were blown away with the performance for the price.

we have described this in the office as a good pair of 'budget headphones' with a strong package of gaming accessories.

Cheers thanks for that.

So basically a good sound card + a separate AMP is the best way to go

That headset is very low impedance it will be powered by any normal sound card with ease.

Naturally you will get better sample rates and features from better sound cards but that one will run fine of of a DGX for example without need for a headphone amp.

Ideally a entirely separate amp and is the best way to go.

a lot of what they said is subjective Onboard is terrible from my experience and even the most basic sound card has provided an improvement.

I admit a lot of the gimicks are gimicks but some of them work. It's all personal preference and If you're spending £100 + on headphones for music you're likely to be interested in DAC's and amps. If you're gaming on a pair of 50 gaming phones a sound card will satisfy your every need.

I would say aswell that My STX II whilst it is £169.99 RRP easily performs to an acceptable level and if you can't tell the difference between it and onboard something is wrong very wrong.

That said some of the points in the video are relevant even if the guy making them has a vested interested in selling Mayflowers DAC Amp combos to consumers.

Been looking into these a lot and I really do have a good feeling about them. The build looks great, and they have a good pedigree. The only thing that worried me was the ear pads, I'm a velour fan and I've seen they come with velour ear pads! I'm excited!

That's amazing considering the price. Leather and pleather get too much for me to the point it can become a deal breaker in terms of long term comfort.

we open up all manner when we ask about different sound cards etc, its hard to say whether a headset which is so easily powered would benefit from throwing hundreds on a DAC or an amp really. The headsets or headphones that are harder to power will always benefit greatly. Only way to know for sure would be to test. But even them some people say that loud is just better they dont know the difference about the tones and whether they are warm or notice the highs or lows.

TBH they look too cheap for the "hype" I mean £64 doesn't get you any pair of headphones brand new that are amazing for gaming, second hand yes you could get 595's.

They could be great though, nobody knows until they are reviewed by someone with experience of great gaming headphones rather than gaming headsets.

So it's based on a QH-90, which is based on a Takstar Pro 80 which is a far eastern rip off of a Beyerdynamic DT770 :D

Thats why we arr sending a pair to Ryan to test out.

Looks like a takstar to me from that headband ;)

but by all standards didn't do a bad job for a phone with smaller drivers and a lower impedance than the dt770.

I'd agree looks like a watered down version of the DT770's. For that price you can't expect amazing audio quality but I bet they are decent.

They have been delivered :D I've just finished work so I'll crack them open when I'm home. I'm going to listen to these for two-three days, see how they do for gaming, portability etc and get the review out!

Thanks for that video very interesting. Don't suppose there's something similar for normal headphones vs surround sound headphones?
