** GAMING **

I'll try them with the Mixamp alone and also with my Vali.

Some impressions but I won't give too much away!

Packaging is first class, love the presentation. The accessories are excellent it's crazy what you get for your money. Love the build, comfort is good! Had to wack the velours on right away though, leather makes my ears heat up too quick. Not giving any sound away as I'm saving it for the review. I will say my ears have adjusted too them quickly as they sound very similar to a couple of my other phones so review won't be too long but I'll make sure I've tested them for every aspect. Up late tonight and will continue extensive music test.

They are sparkly in the treble with a bit of a bass hump. They remind of a cross between the 770 and Denon D600 in signature. They have a clean and detailed presentation the body is quite thin in the mids and treble giving them quite a good sense of space and air for a closed headphone. They don't seal very well so I think this plays a part in the body and air. This is with the velour pads. I'll try the pleather, they may lush the sound up more but with the velours I reckon they will be good for gaming.

I'm not going to tell you if I like them or recommend them yet as it would ruin the review. They also only have about 2 hours on them so the drivers need time to shake.

^^ Sounds like they have good synergy with dolby headphone for gaming which probably isn't too surprising given the Denon influence.

its a can of worms. from what I understand, most lower end soundcards are not much better than on board, they are just louder. its a bit of a tough call.

this is a great video that explains in 20 minutes what I could never really type.

draw your own conclusions from that.

In relation to the headset, we have been using this with a good DAC/AMP combo and were blown away with the performance for the price.

we have described this in the office as a good pair of 'budget headphones' with a strong package of gaming accessories.

I have to say a lot of what they said in that video was flamed as bad advice, im no expert im just saying, there was even some response vids made by some people about what they had to say also, I forget the links now,

I guess im just saying you need to take a pinch of slt with what they say. even comments on audio forums had threads about what they said,

it's not much more than an advert for Mayflower Electronics

it's nothing more than that.

i have that dac on my desk and for gaming it's not a touch on the STX II that is the same price

it would be amazing for a gaming laptop an excellent upgrade for someone with a computer with no room for a soundcard who enjoys music.

A great choice for someone who has an All in one system they can't take apart.

but it doesn't provide any more clarity in game than a decent sound card. I won't talk about musically because we all have our tastes.

Ultimately though that guy has a desire and need to sell mayflower products that's his job so of course he's going to tell you sound cards half the price of his product are ****.

Whist some of what he says could be construed as accurate some of it is poppycock and fluff skirting around the point to make it sound like a bigger issue than it is.

instead of telling people to buy dacs and sound cards they should focus on the headphone as if you've got a pair of £30 China made Gaming pro headshotter specials s no DAC amp combo will enhance your experience from those terrible things.

His explanation of how a sound card with an output impedance of 10 ohms loses one third of the music when used with 32 ohm headphones had me rolling around. He also states that 32 ohms input impedance is the standard for headphones, when there is no such thing. He uses a few solid facts to tart up a bunch of nonsense and outright advertising.

Ive always had a tosklink/DAC/AMP and speakers combo but all up the separates cost about 1500 pounds, this circumvents the Soundcard debate but I can see why some are so passionate about having a card and not having one. Personally I'm in favour of external separates but then a decent DAC should cost you 300+.... particularly if your not a headphones person. ,

If you're plugging £1000 headphones into a £500 amp then yes, the DAC should cost upwards of £300. There are a lot of extremely capable and well respected DACs available for one third of that though.

Understood but that video isn't discussing that. If you're in the market for a £500 AMP and a £300 DAC you're not going to be seeking advice from tek syndicate. that's like going to a ford dealer to discuss your future Ferrari purchase....
