gamming on wfi

No problem, glad to be of help. The netgear router you mention, two things. Is it a range max? Do you need the 108 Mbps of bandwidth over the network? If the answer is no to both you are all set to go with the Belkin adapter. If the router is a rangemax, moving to a belkin will mean loosing some of the range, but the range is still good on the rangemax series regardless of your adapter. If you need the 108 speeds you have to have one of the netgear adapters I beleive.

Personally I am using 54Mbps speeds and this is fine for sending the odd music file or picture over the network. Anything bigger (video's etc) I just use a 2.5" USB HDD. This is really where a wired network would step in.

the router is a rangemax dg834pn but like yourself i dont transfer that much over the network i also use an external hdd for video transfer so 54mbps would be more than fine. again thanks for the help m8

No worries, good luck with that...

Works fine for me as long as VM don't cap my connection. I.e. If I play around mid-day it's fine, latency between 5 and 25 usually. If I play in the evening i'll be lucky to get a decent ping.

I've found that wireless is just as good as a cable for gaming until it starts going wrong. When it does go wrong you usually lose connectivity all together rather than lag.

On some old routers using WPA encryption causes a "pause" in connection when the WPA key changes (usally every 3600 seconds). I noticed this on my old Zyxel and switched back to WEP. OK its not that secure but its better than nothing and at least it doesn't "pause" mid game for 30 seconds or so at a time!

Wireless is fine if your signal strength is good and your on an uncongested channel. For better range and speed invest in the N spec kit as it will provide a better connection in hard to reach places (ooo err missus ;) )
