Garage floor surface?

I looked at getting rubber tiles as you see in a lot of the american style "show us your garage" threads a couple of years back, but they were very expensive.

Depends on how harsh the usage is going to be, most vinyl's wont wear well enough i wouldnt imagine. The best option for a cheap fix is a floor paint as they use in a lot of commercial garages.

Edit: that ebay link seems very cheap, at that price just buy a batch and see what they are like imho.

They are quite rubbish in my experience, due to them being foam you van and do very easily damage them and they don't wear well.

Personally I'd just make sure the concrete is level, it's been treated with an antidust solution (to allow the following to stick properly and to stop oil soaking in) and then paint it in a highly durable garage floor paint.

I've just done mine with the ronseal sealer and paint.

The concrete was so dusty I did 2 coats of sealer and 2 coats of paint. The finish is good.

I would also suggest washing the floor first with some kind of detergent based cleaner, otherwise in any patches where oil has been spilt you may also get the paint and sealer peeling.

Don't expect much change from £150 to do a double garage though :O

The Ronseal stuff above says it seals and paints? Any reason why you didn't use that?

The garage is perfectly clean inside, although I would give it a good sweep and clean before I applied it, to remove as much dust as possible. This is all of course if I manage to get this place :D

The concrete finish was exceptionally dusty. After the first coat of sealer it was clear it would need another. If the concrete in your garage is good you may get away without sealing.

I'm certain that if I had just used the paint along it would have been peeling in no time. Since it was such a huge hassle moving everything out of the garage and storing it elsewhere while I painted - I wanted to be sure I had a finish that would last and not need doing again soon.

Knock of the high spots, brush wash and let dry, apply 2 pack Watco paint, leave to dry voila. Buy roll along mechanic table / lie down and you'll have a nice environment.

Vinyl will rip and peel at the front edge of the garage, also a tamped slab won't be good enough for vinyl to stick to unless you latex it, carpet will get damp and smell, clear coat sealing is fine but will still look like concrete, a nice paint you need

Just use concrete sealer, there is no need to paint it as well. The sealant will stop the concrete dust and will stop spills from staining.

£750 isnt that expensive when you consider what you get.

Granted it seems expensive when you compare it with a tin of paint, but think how much a good carpet costs for a large sized front room. Its not far off that

If you want expensive, spec up some nice granite / marble floor tiles for the garage and see what that comes out at :p
