Gas Bills

My last gas bill was over £300 in credit, I don't think the next one will be. My CH has been on constantly at 19-20c for weeks now.

Dread to think what ours will be :/ 7 of us here and my parents seem to have it on 24/7! I hate it! I havnt slept in my room without my window being open quite a lot for over a month D:

damn you guys which can use a timer.

How easy are the thermostat to replace, with something a bit more programmable. Basically save a few different profiles and select a different one each day, darn shift work.

I'm overpaying so hopefully that will cover the increase. I would rather be comfortable and pay. Unless you are stupidly tight for money I don't get the lets feel cold for the sake of £10 a month.

If you can stick a screwdriver to your PC you can fit a thermostat to a boiler. Just need the wiring diagram to your boiler usually just 2 wires to connect. Not difficult at all. If you already have an external thromostat in a room its even easier just replace it with a timer.

Mines on a prepay meter so im not worried about a large bill. Its got plenty of credit on it but ive used almost £20 in the last few days

I reckon ours heating is on for about 4 or 5 hours a day, up from our usaul 2 hours. That's right, we are tight like that!

I'm bracing myself for the bill.

Same here, we had a good buffer of credit. Ours is usually on for about 4 hours a day (mornings, kids bedtime, when she gets back from work), everybody stuck in the house all day means it's more like 12 hours  These cornish unit builds don't have the best exterior wall insulation!

last 1/4 was £120 so the heatings been on a good few hours extra so im thinking £200-£250 :( stuupid cold weather

Last winter It was ~£200 a quarter for this time of year, we've just had a new boiler fitted so I'm hoping it'll be a bit cheaper to run than my old one which was 15+ years old :)

Having said that, I'm about £150 in credit for gas/elec anyway.

I've worked at home a few extra days so it's been on all day while I've been there and it's been working flat out the rest of the time it's been on. I don't think it's going to add a lot though.

This would be a great idea. A thermostat that you can program in some times as well as the temperature. Simple fix for people who can't change their boiler and it'll slash their bills. Great for tenants for example.

Ours turned up a week before Christmas and it was average for that time of year. Not looking forward to the next one as the heating’s barely been off since then.

I have jinxed myself. Our hot water pipes have frozen. Pah. Just as well we have an electric shower as a "backup". -16c here today.

Our heating is on a timer to come on at about 6am and off by 8am, on again at 3pm and off at 10pm. We've found that keeps us warm quite happily, although last night I turned the heating down to minimum and kept it on solid thoroughout the night. Sore throat this morning from it!

It's been on all day, everyday over Christmas however. Thankfully, we're mid-terraced, decent double-glazing, new insulation in the loft and have a neighbour who has his house like an oven - so our CH has never gone over half what it can do. Shame it's quite an old one that's likely to be inefficient. Hopefully the gas credit will cover some of the Winter costs.

Normally have ours on a timer, comes on at 6am goes off at 9, comes on at 4 then goes off at 10. We've now changed it to once, it comes on at 6am and goes off at 10pm on a low setting all day. Our house is very well insulated, but it now takes a lot less to warm the house up.
