Right basically I'm doing my GCSE'S at the moment and the science course I'm doing doesn't give you a GCSE instead you get an "Equivalent" Entry Level..
(For the teacher's amongst us who know what this mean's . No I ain't dull just missed 3 months of school in year 9 and about a month of year 10 due to medical , reason's grades have suffered a lot :(.

My question is if I do well in this "entry level course" and get a say GCSE B equivalent will employers treat this differently to a normal Science GCSE.

Cheers guy's :).

I dont understand if its an equivalent to a b why dont you just take a GCSE and get the B?

I was forced (Mislead , the course was labelled GCSE then I found out 3 months later that it wasn't ) You do a test to decide which course you qualify for I was absent at the time , so they used test result's from about 2 year's ago . I have improved a lot since then , what can I do?

I'm looking to re-do my maths and english. Is it worth doing the proper gcse's or doing those adult qualifications?

(sorry to hijack!)

Fair enough, I wasn't having a go just trying to understand where the decision has been made.

How are these equivalent courses (not NVQs) generally treated in an interview situation?

My advice for your English GCSE would be to brush up on your use of apostrophes; unless, of course, correct punctuation is not seen as important any more.

Well if he highlighted the mistakes, explained why they are mistakes and how they should be used in a friendly manner instead of criticising then it would be a useful post:rolleyes:

update: have spoken to my science teacher and he says it isn't even equivalent to a GCSE U :(. What are my option's? NVQ's when i'm older?

In my personal experience, GCSE's exist entirely to get you to A Levels. Once you've got A Levels, no one seems to care about GCSEs, (Uni's etc.)

I honestly can't remember. Go and talk to your teachers, ask them if you'll be able to get into 6th form with that course and what your options would be etc (they might not let you take any science A Levels with that GCSE, which might not be a problem if you didn't want to anyway.)

true , but do you need a science gcse to get into sixth form?

Depends on the school (and if you're planning to study science at sixth form of course!). You should check with yours, or the sixth form college you plan to attend.

And yes, GCSEs are basically sixth form entrance exams IF you go to sixth form and on in education from there. If you don't, then they are sometimes used as basic qualification checks for 16+ jobs, and if you are missing key grades that could be a problem (not "is", "could be" - depends on the employer!)

you dont NEED it.. sure its good to have, but once your in 6th form/college, then nobody cares after that, its all about the A levels.. and then once thats done, you get your degree at Uni.. and then its void cos nobody really cares! :)

all about the experience though imo!

Ok thanks for the advice , will speak to my teacher's. What's most annoying about this is my future is being jeapordised and it isn't my fault :(.
