GCSE's coming up, any tips??

GCSEs are too easy, you can get straight Cs at least without revising. Bs with a little revision, and decent As with a few weeks of decent revision. Tbh, they never really matter unless you're looking at Oxford/Cambridge.

Well, a D in any of the core subjects will stop you from becoming a primary school teacher should you choose that as a career path post-university.

I remember for one of my English or Science papers - can't remember now - I'd completely missed out the last question on the back page. I only realised it was there when I handed the paper in and saw it staring me in the face. So, that's a great piece of advice: read the paper carefully and leave yourself time to review it at the end!

Revise.

You should be revising up to the at least the night before each exam, a good idea is post-it notes, write things like formulas/equations or just little notes on important subjects you need to remember on them, then stick them up somewhere like the fridge or your doors and read them out loud every time you go past. After that get someone to sit with you and ask you to solve things using those equations without reference, or to explain a certain thing to them.

If you are doing any languages, write down several speeches that you need to know and ask someone to let you talk to them with that as a reference, write down what you are saying at the same time.

I didn't know that

D is pretty hard to get unless you forget to answer a question or its a very hard paper that you havn't revised those parts for, imo.

yeh same mate, 18th is the day im dredding  two hours of something pointless and i'm atheist
In the Mock i wrote a load of crap lol

Why do people believe in religion: "They believe in everything they are told or they are mad.
;)

Waste of 1h 45mins!

I got core1 on the 24th.

Marks been mostly A's in past papers, got 92% once, but got 70% in last one.

I really can't do function graphs :(

Core 1 is a doss! I found C2 the hardest of all the modules so far up until FP2 which is harder than both FP3 and FP4, horrid, horrid thing.

yeh i know!! you should be able to say 'I'm atheist, i do not believe in God' then get full marks :p

yeh im good in geog, and yeh B is pretty easy without any knowledge, just common sense, however, for our spec we need to know casestudies as this is where most marks are :/, i know a few but thats what i find i really need to revise.

How does geog mark scheme work for your board? I'm doing iGCSE geog, and in the mark scheme you can get up to 6/7 even without naming a specific place!

Also, most of the time, if you don't know a case study, then you can easily make one up in the exam.

Off the top of my head
eg: low population density: Sahara, Amazon rainforest, north america.
Food shortage: Zimbabwe
Birth control: China
Ageing population: any medc, eg France

Don't worry mate, case studies are easy :)

The best part about about c1 is that we did differentiation for GCSE, so I can use it to answer questions :D

I've got exams coming up soon too. The best advice I got when doing my SG's last year (Scottish equivalent of GCSE's) was to not cram in revision the night before and get an early night. If you don't live too far away from your school i'd suggest walking (if you usually go by car). It keeps me at ease and is a good way to go over everything in your head before the exam.

Also, don't worry too much about the time limit you get in the exams as you usually work quicker in the exam room anyway :)

Good luck with your exam. I've got my english exam on the 12th so wish me luck too :D

This too.

honestly guys revision is key, looking back now if i had done the same amount of revision for my GCSEs as for my degree i would have got straight As.

post it notes is the key for taking in large amounts of info. I took this to the extreme at uni and printed off key words/case notes on A4 paper and covered each wall with these for each subject.

i also found a voice programme which converted my notes into voice mp3 format so i could listen to them where ever i went.

all a bit extreme but payed dividends :)

Unfortunately, its opposite with our mark scheme, we need to be specific to get any marks at all! :(, but yeh in the mocks I made one up about Kenya, got full marks and my teacher asked me for a copy of the case study to give to the rest of the class :/ lol

To be honest, I've not revised a single thing so far and, apart from french, I'm breezing through the papers with A*'s. Don't follow my example though, I'm an exception to the rule, and I really need to revise for the coming exams.

Just to toot my own horn, I'm currently at an A* in english, all three sciences, maths, RE and IT. My statistics module is finished, that's an extra A* GCSE, I've just sent in my engineering coursework which should be a double award (A/A*), the French coursework was A*, and I've just finished my speaking exam with an A (it's the french exams I suck at most, and am not looking forward to).

I'm also really dreading the IT exam, because they have nothing to do with IT. For example, in the last mock, the question asked me to describe how someone would store data for supermarket groceries using a database. I created a long, detailed answer on how to go about creating and entering data into a database, when the actual answer was "draw a table on some paper". Seriously? And that's about 10% of the overall marks? Ugh. Also, due to the way the "uniform marks" are calculated (i.e. the more marks you get, the greater the number your mark is multiplied by to get the uniform mark), those last 5 marks can actually equate to 8-10 uniform marks lost, which is more than an entire grade.

Plus the fact that the IT exams are all about making sure you interpret the question correctly, and not the actual IT knowledge, means you can't even revise for them

The ICT exam is ridiculous, and yeh all you need to do is interpret the question, although in my spec, you do need to know what things are i.e. 'What is a peripheral driver?' unless you know what it is, there is no way to get teh marks, + that would be a 4 mark question  lol, luckily, i'm a techy kinda person :)
