GD may close for a while

The only forum I can see some GD-style threads spilling into, would be Speakers Corner.

that would be a shame , i dont post there often but its the only forum where i will usually sit and read long threads due to having interesting and usually well thought out debate.

Instead of closing GD, I believe it should be more tightly moderated. Admittedly OCUK GD is a lot better than other forum GD...

It's the best GD on the net :)

I think the moderators of this forum do a good job, considering how popular and how many members use it.

I think Rotty would have a few things to say about that ;)

That would be a lot of work for his ban hammer.

It would be like a small rock trying to do the job of a dam wall(Dam as in the place you keep water)

Yep it is :) I thought you'd be able to tell that? :) Not difficult to work out is it? :)
Thank you for not insulting my intelligence.

Yes there is a lot of spam, but isn't GD there as a odds and sods forum? The blurb there itself says 'Talk about anything not covered by other forums.'.

So girlfriend issues, how to cook, show us you [insert here] do appear.

I think the question has to be addressed why people consider GD a bad thing. Is it technical due to GD eating the majority of the server, or is it 'vision' related. The much rumoured move to make the forum more technical, as afterall the forum is here to generate more money for OcUK at the end of the day.

I agree that they do a good job, maybe there should just be less tolerance for border-line spam.

Only allowed to Post in GD once you have reached 150 posts?
*Danger is people will spam to get 150 posts*

I say, give a 'shameful' Avatar to highlight those that spam and then make a new forum for spam, that way if you absolutely MUST spam, OcUK can cater for it... but no-one else ever has to go in there...

Unfortunately that would require moderators, a commodity which is sorely lacking at the moment it seems!

There can always be a conscription

Taht should sort out the don shortage

In Speakers Corner:
"My girlfriend dumped me, I'm sad guys...post some ORLY owls to chear (sic) me up plz lol"

---
"Your folderal post has abhorred me to the extent where I'm going to depart this thread without adding anything propitious."
---

"v. dumped, dump·ing, dumps
v. tr.
To release or throw down in a large mass.

To empty (material) out of a container or vehicle: dumped the load of stones.
To empty out (a container or vehicle), as by overturning or tilting.

Dumped is not the correct word to use, please rephrase and re-evaluate your original post"

You forgot people asking for sources :p

How about a voting system for each thread (along the lines of the star system except with plus and minus) and if it goes too far into the 'red' the thread is given the boot.
I'm a member of another forum that implemented this system. It was rapidly abused with 'hit squads' going around and negative-rating threads by people who they didn't like or who didn't agree with their particular views. In short - doesn't work.
