Gears of War 2 MP Game Arranging Thread

I will join in tonight after about 8:30pm. Had loads of problems with my router yesterday so could never get in any games or anything

Good games last night, I find this easier than GOW1 for some reason, just seems like you do more damage when shooting people :)
I'm up for it again tonight; blaiRinsta

Just realised this morning that River is the "Spiritual Successor" to Canals, the bonus map from GOW with the downed helicopter has a remake in GOW2 and I bet once we've played a few more maps we'll find another few remakes or maps that are heavily based on maps from GOW

We played Canals and Roadblock and Tyro Station from the original yesterday. All of them played just as they did before. For Canals, it was a Gord on the sniper, everyone else with the shotties (and missing), for Roadblock it was always a sprint for the longshot and [whatever the rocket launcher is called] and for Tyro Station more people died by being hit by the train than by being shot. I think they made the train more frequent.

Train is definitley more frequent, or the rounds are lasting longer for some reasons I don't recall it passing that often in an average length game.

The Canal is frozen in the "remake"!!!

Also, I forget the name of the map in Gears 1 that was like a high ground/low ground map. Would be awesome for Horde mode imo. Don't think it is one of the 5 flashback maps.

I'm thinking road block would be a good one for horde if you were to hold up in the building that overlooks the street and one of the spawn points. If you race to pick up the sniper and rocket launcher at the start you could guard both the entrances and pick off quite a lot of the horde before they got near the entrances.

Can wait to play horde. Should be good fun sniping them from miles whilst my team cover the close up stuff

Doesn't work out that way really ;)

I played through from level 35 to level 50 last night with Perm Boy, Squinoogle and some others... great fun, but they get damn hard in the end. Now I need to play from levels 1 through 35!! :D

True, I know what your like from COD, camper!

We did notice you playing it, seemed to take a few hours too! I'll help out on your 1 to 35 quest if you want, should have it tomorrow

with regards to the shotgun in GOW1/2 MP so far (and I might change my mind in weeks to come) I think the GOW1 Shotty is way better.

In my understanding of the game's Battle Dogma* is:
Both teams start at opposite sides of the map and use ranged weapons to suppress their enemies and pin them down, whilst your team advance on them in an attempt to flank/out-maneuverer them so that your team can get into shotgun/chainsaw/fragtag range to get the kills.

Due to the stop and pop nature, it should be very difficult to get a lancer kill and power weapons should really only get you kills if your enemy makes a mistake and pops their head out where they shouldn't.

The problem was that the levels in GOW1 were not designed to be particularly defensive in nature so everyone ran as fast as they could into the center and the person with the best shotgun or was sly enough with the hand grenade won (either the host or Alrik)

The levels I played on so far in GOW2 (Can only remember Avalanches name) all seem to be better set up defensively so that you have no urgency to rush the enemy or the power weapons. Which means that when you do get close your weapon needs to work. If the other team separate and run off in opposite direction then a Chainsaw from behind will more or less seem to do the trick, but if you come up against 2 enemies on your own, your basically stuffed. At best you can Chainsaw one of them and accept your fate from the other.
In GOW1 you always stood a fighting chance with the Shotgun.

Alrik and both had a reputation in GOW1 for trying to get round the back of the enemy. I remember numerous times 3 of my team mates would go one way, start blasting at the enemy, whilst I ran the long way round, came up behind the enemy and would take one or two of them down. This would cause the remaining enemy to panic a bit and they would leave cover. This would allow the remainder of my team to come in and deal with the rest of the enemy. Alrik used very similar tactics (and usually anti-Krono tactics)

I think going forward their may be more draws on the horizon as there risk is lower than the reward for advancing (especially advancing individually)

On the plus side this does mean that your team will have to use more teamwork and communication and only exceptionally skilled shotgun users will be able to run off and ambush the enemy.

As I said, I might change my mind in weeks to come as I get more used to the MP shotgun mechanics. But for now I think that nurfing the Shotgun has meant that there is no advantage in advancing, and no advantage in holding your position (as the lancer is in no way effective enough to kill anyone behind cover)

*which may naturally be flawed.

You mean you realised when I told you last night!

Too late. You are banned. But Kreeee[1]John is still allowed to play with us.

As for Krono, you have inherent flaws. Thats why you need me to get your back.

You didn't have my back last night. :( that flaming laser fence did though :( :(

Who was it that asked about Kreeeee[1] last night and believed me when I said that they both wanted the Same GT but Kreeeee has already taken it so Kreeeee[1] put the 1 after his name and that they had never met before last night?

Was it RP????

I doubt it was RP, he is a highly intelligent gentleman.

John's a retard and won't be playing split screen with me for a while! He brought up the menu blade twice when someone was chainsawing me! Plus he messes up my audio, it's really bizarre having 2 sets of game sounds come from one set of speakers.

I did ask who Kreeee[1] was, but I meant in the sense "anyone we know from forums". I did hear you saying about the gamertag joke, but didn't say anything cos there was a lot of shouting going on, and based on jokes here about your lack of skills and prowess on 360, that you may indeed be confused yourself :D
