Gears of War 3 has been given a final release date as Microsoft announces that Epic's saga will be concluding on September 20.

Originally slated for release this Spring, Gears of War 3 was hit with a delay that pushed it back to later in the year. It'll mark the end of a trilogy that kick-started the HD console generation back in 2006. A look late last year at the multiplayer features suggested it will be a fitting finale.

About time there was an announcement about this, two months earlier than I was expecting as well. Time to start going through the first two again then! :D

A range of mocked-up photos hint at revelations of Adam Phoenix's backstory, while a copy of his last will and testament tellingly reveals that he left $1m to Dominic Santiago. Finally, the package includes a Coalition flag, which can actually be spotted in the Gears of War 3 game inside Marcus's quarters.

Also announced was the GAME and GameStation exclusive £99.99 Epic edition, containing all of the above items and other special collectibles.

Inside is a model of Marcus Fenix created by Chris Perna, who has been the Gears of War art director for ten years.

Perna used the actual character model from the game development to print out the figure in 3D, creating a high poly model from a low poly design. The figure has been finished with special paint, meaning Marcus's skin glows with iridescence when illuminated with a back light.

Epic said that each model will be hand finished, meaning there could be just a limited run of 5,000 made available.

The model will be joined by booklet The Art and Design of Gears of War by Tom Bissell and an Infected Omen Weapon Pack, giving five weapons custom skins in multiplayer.

Having only just got into 360 gaming I completed Gears 1 last week, Gears 2 is in line for a play through shortly also all in preparation for this

Shame to hear it's the last one though :confused:

Of course it won't, very few games do work online straight out the box :D

I just hope this one gets fixed faster so that by the time it does work, everyone hasn't lost interest.

I really enjoyed Gears 2 and really liked the trainer mode against the bots as well.
 
In theory the fact at has dedicated servers should make the MP 1000X times better anyway. Any improvement over 2 will be good. The core gameplay in it is excellent,it's just the horrendous lag you get 80% of the time that ruins it.
 
I've just had an Xbox 360 also. Is Gears 1 worth bothering with now? I played a few hours of the PC version a few years ago but it was quite buggy. I'll probably get gears 2 at some point.
 
Last I heard it was due 11th of April, now they're saying September?

Wish I'd got the chance to try it at Eurogamer, but couldn't get a look in as the qwewe was ridiculous and wasn't being managed properly with some people hogging the game for 20-25 mins at a time. It was a Multiplayer demo though so I don't think I would've missed much as I'm not really interested in Multiplayer on this game (Gears has always been about solo or co-op campaign for me). Still, it would've been nice to see the graphics up close and experience how the game felt (movement wise) compared to the others.

Definitely mate, it hasn't aged at all. Great game. I definitely didn't want to start Gears 2 before I'd finally completed the first :)
 
I've just gone gold as well!! I wasn't going to but just had an offer on spotlight. Buy 12 months for -20% (£31.99) and get either Fable 3 or Halo Reach for free. Can't turn that down!

just hope so much that Gears 3 isn't like all other games at the moment, which is bleeding multi-player orientated, please for the love of god Epic make a good single-player / co-op game, don't ruin Gears! also for the love of god in multiplayer I hope that the utterly shocking Wingman shotgun spamming gets axed somehow, nobody ever uses any different gun in Wingman except the shotgun which is just boring! :(

It's not just wingman, it's all multiplayer modes. They need to address the balance between the lancer and the shotty first and foremost. Judging from screenies and the demo play I get the impression they have overhauled the weapons so we live in hope.

+1 to that dude! really disliked GOW2 multiplayer for this reason entirely, every single time i come across an enemy, shotgun...! gets really old really fast.
 
good news I really like gears a lot, I would say its probably the best series on 360. I just wish they add another difficulty as normal is too easy and hardcore (think its hardcore) iso enjoyable and challenging until you get to the last level or two especially without co op.

Im a big fan of the mp aswell as its a very fulfilling experience...horde in particular is awesome.
