Gears of War

Must be your PC as AC is very stable compared to many other new PC releases. If you have a heavily overclocked system this can cause issues but that is not Ubisofts fault to cater for overclocked PC's is it.

I will admit the game does have a lot of similar gameplay but TBH you can say that about any game in the past 10-15 years they are all very samey in that respect. Yeah the story is nothing special but no better or worse than anything else out there. What AC does have going for it is that its a beautiful looking massive open world you can explore and there are many unique features like free running to escape fights or jumping off tall buildings all seamless as no loading is required to break up the illusion of the open world.
Not any other games around you can do that in which have the same graphical detail as AC.

PC is not overclockered. Quad 6600 / 4GB RAM / 8800GTS Graphics Card. It was better with the patches but still not that great. To be honest it's not a great game so I didn't waste much time with it. Everything else on the system is very stable and runs fine (Grid / AoC / LoTRO) so I know 100% it's not my system.

Erm there is loading in the game. The bit where you're told the hints. Annoys the heck out of me. The game area is pretty big but it looks the same so you can't really tell where you are other than following the arrows pointing you to the destination.

It does look nice but I can't think why anyone would want to do all the subquests, etc. and not just run mindlessly through and slaughter everyone (i.e. the rescue the peasants, find the flags, etc.)

Th eproblem is specific to the 8800GT.

Also, yes it does. Google Assassin's Creed Phoning Home.
Sorry not your fault but thats not accurate. Just another example of the internet spreading false info and passing it of as fact.

Most Ubisoft PC games for a while now do auto update checks on startup to see if a patch is available. Easily disabled by pointing your shortcut to either:

"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Assassin's Creed\AssassinsCreed_Dx10.exe"
"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Assassin's Creed\AssassinsCreed_Dx9.exe"

The default is:
"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Assassin's Creed\AssassinsCreed_Launcher.exe"

Yeah its dumb that they do this by default but they cannot win either way people will moan regardless.

Assassins Creed has even been given away with 8800GT's in a bundle so doubt very much it has serious issues when Nvidia would have done a lot of work on it as its a TWIMTBP title.

Sorry anyones having issues but you cannot blame the game for this especially when its one of the best performing recent PC titles having an extra 6 months of optimisation over the consoles so obviously Ubisoft put a lot more time/effort into it.

Um... it's not innacurate because it was happening to my copy of the game. I'm really sorry you're having issues understanding that perhaps, just because what you have is fine, other people might still have issues... but they exist.

Disabling the net connection was the only way to stop th eintermittent crashes (and even then it would only BSOD more frequently).

That sucks, yeah naturally every game has its issues on 'someones' system....That's a problem with PC gaming sadly, every system is different, every install in different...So there are bound to be some issues along the line.

So you run no Anti-virus or firewall? Brave aren't we? lol...Hell i left my Dial up connection for 5 minutes with no firewall etc and I got a virus! haha.

But anyway, this is a Gear of War thread ;)

The main problem i had with GoW, is the fact it was a bad port regarding performance, as it ran so shoddy compared to other games.
