I'm looking to buy a Geforce 8600 GT and i noticed that the GPU and memory speeds are different on different manufacturers.
So Since the Leadtek GeForce 8600 GT Extreme 256MB GDDR3 has a GPU of 590mhz does that make it faster than the Asus GeForce 8600 GT 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI because it as 540mhz? ^_^;;

The 8600 GT clocks like a demon, my lad has his core running at either 650 or 700 (cant remember) and the mem at 800 i think.
Good card and it cost me 70 quid.

Well thats good to know but i don't plan on overclocking at the moment lol
But that still doesn't answer my question does the clock speed make a difference becasue the leadtek card has more mhz than the asus....?

lol its funny people say get a 7600gt instead! the 8600 is much better than a 7600gt, around 30% i believe in some games and at £70 as said it does clock like anything ;) I think their not bad in all Honesty

to answer your question, a faster core clock means it will be faster

thx ^_^;;
I just thought it would be a good idea to ask....the way i see it is, just because it has a higher number doesn't make it faster.

Just like with Intel and AMD CPU's

i see what u mean but the reason i'm getting a geforce 8 is because i want the dx10 feature lol.
i look at the card u stated and it doesn't say anything on it about dx10.
i'm just trying to make my self a little future proof ^_^;;
i'm upgrading my current rig ya see with £300 so thats why i'm going for the geforce 8600.

i'm also getting a asus AM2 motherbaord and AMD X2 3800+. Corsair 2gb 6400 DDR2 RAM.

i wouldnt bether with the 8600 for directx10. It will be good for dx9 but its going to not run dx10 very good

why would ya say that? O_o;;
Is the 8600 like the GeforceFX with the whole dx 9 problem
how long have i been away, When did everyone start using Intel? O_O;;

here's my current comp:
A7N8X Deluxe 1008 rev 1.04
XP2400+ 2ghz
Geil 2x512mb PC3200 RAM
Asus V9980 Geforce FX 5950 Ultra 256MB
SoundStorm
Windows XP Pro SP2
CoolerMaster Aero 7 Lite
Thermaltake Xaser III case
Antec TruePower2.0 550W

There are no dx10 developed games out at the moment, only patches for dx9 games and these are running far slower with very little graphical improvement.
8600 are not like the FX range, they use very little power and dont sound like a dyson.

So basicly what your saying is i'm screwed due to the lack of money? O_o;;
couldn't i just buy the same card later on and connecting them using SLI?
wouldn't that be enough for a dx10 game? O_o;;

Whats all this about everyone using Intel?

Get an x1950pro for about £82, it will be faster. Even two in SLi would struggle with DX10 I imagine, they are less than half the speed of an 8800GTS 320mb.

The core CPUs are about 20-30% faster clock for clock than the AMD equivalents and they overclock higher. My e6300 does 2.8ghz on stock voltage with ease, making it about 30% faster than an FX-62 or 6000+.

Considering the top of the range cards like the GTX/Ultras are averaging about 24fps in Dx10 with drops into the teens, then nope, 8600's aint got a chance in hell, not even 20 of the ***** in twentyrupled SLi. :D :D

I have owned both an X1950Pro and an 8600GT. Sure, the X1950 is faster in most CURRENT games at stock, but when overclocked there is virtually no difference between them. Infact, I get slightly better results with my (highly overclockable) 8600GT than I did with a (virtually un-overclockable) X1950.

8600's run cooler, use less electricity, have less buggy drivers, decode H.264, support DX10, overclock like deamons and are cheaper. Only people who have not owned one slate them.
