Geforce GTX1180/2080 Speculation thread

Total guess here but could it be the advantages of the new tech could increase as you up the resolution or also perhaps depending on if dx11, 12 or vulkan?.

Ie maybe a dx12 game at 4k will show bigger gains than 1080p DX 11 ( these cards are not aimed at 1080p really so I am only gonna be looking at 4k performance tbh

Honestly tho I doubt NV expect 1080ti owners to be buying an 1180. Imo it is the lower end pascal and the Maxwell gamers they will be looking to hook. I daresay even the canny 1080 owning shopper will most likely waiting for the 1180ti

Same performance as the 1080 Ti for £200 less for the 1170 would be a good place to start.
Yep. That is what I would like to see. It has been over 2 years now. Don't think it is much to expect to be honest. But with no competition, I am not holding my breath.

I can't run Final Fantasy XV maxed with all game works effects on without running out of VRAM on my GTX 1080 at 1440P.
Hmm... That is a game I am looking forward to play soon. Might end up having to buy a 1080Ti for the extra ram after all. But I want something new... :(

Either that or turn off a few tacked on GameWorks effects and make do with 8gb. Do the GameWorks stuff make a big difference?

What will you use 16GB for?

A 4GB R9 Fury X is still pretty decent.

You aren't going to understand because you are talking to folk that truly believe that DX11 will never die. Not even realizing that, more then likely, Nvidia has officially abandon DX11 for DX12/Vulkan/RT with the release of Turing. Thus making the need for such high amounts of memory also obsolete except for obscured, niche case scenarios for gaming.

API's like DX11 have been depreciated and have reached EOL in this fashion for as long as there have been new and improved next gen graphics card releases. It's the natural order of things.

I'm still hoping the rumours are fake. With the 4K texture pack Final Fantasy uses a lot of VRAM. If you turn off VXAO then 8GB of VRAM is borderline. The game works effects are nice to have, but don't make much difference. VXAO and Turfworks are big VRAM hogs, the others are not very demanding. Alternatively, you can set TRAM to high instead of very high, but you get textures loading in around you sometimes.

It would suck to go backwards. 8gb was at the x80 level over 2 years ago I would have hoped to move on esp as the price certainly sounds like it has.
My hope it to game at 4k at very high (close to full) details and if games out now are maxing that out (,eg FD XV) it's not great
I dunno if I can manage it but I am starting to think I need to wait for the 1180ti (unless they release a gaming variant of the titan but I refuse to pay over 1k for a GPU)

if whats said is true, nvidia are really chancing it on anyone with a 1070/1080/1080ti upgrading.

if they release something even somewhat decent, everyone will jump on this new series of cards given its been 2 years... but if its a sideways move, hopefully people with 10 series cards will see sense and wait to see what AMD respond with.

Armed with a GTX 670, I'll buy whatever they release in all honesty lol.

No one knows for sure
It seems so far release late aug early sept, performance of the x80 40% more than 1080 10% more than 1080ti but only 8gb and a price increase

If this is true, everyone buy a second hand 1080ti lol

I see no sense buying a 1180 if you have a 1080ti. I would however buy the new RTX Titan or whatever its called ONLY IF its less than £1200 and it provided 40-50% increase in performance over a 1080ti, if its £3000 like roumours have stated then NVIDIA can take a running jump and I will never buy another NVIDIA card again, I hope AMD can get their act together. Otherwise i don't see anyone with a 1080Ti upgrading to anything. Those that bought a 1080Ti when it was released are about to get some amazing long life out of their cards.

Honestly I just dont see NVIDIA charging £3000 for new TITAN who can buy it apart from few youtubers and those with more money than sense. They will lock out a large segment of gamers and potential sales like this.

No choice when you have a Gsync monitor. Same goes for AMD unless your happy to give up (Gsync/freeSync)

According to the "leak" the 1170 is going to be nowhere near a 1080Ti. At least 20% slower.

e: And it's going to be £500... so... worse value for money? Odd.

Any leak that puts a price on a GPU should never be taken seriously.

GPU vendors can and do adjust the launch price of new cards right up to the last minute before they become available.
