Geil Value DDR voltage question!

I recently aquired some geil 2x1gb value ddr400 ram and I'm wondering whats the stock voltage on these things? Or should I just leave the ram voltage settings to auto in the bios? I'm using an Asus A8N-E motherboard.

Any help would be appreciated!

2.6v is default for DDR. :)

But DDR is good for up to 3.0v usually. So you can leave them on Auto or set 2.6v yourself.

If you intend on overclocking then set the voltage to 2.7 or 2.8 to increase stability. Just make sure you have good airflow in your case.

I have a thermaltake tsunami which I really regret getting it now, since I started to upgrade the machine its become really cramped, but luckily theres plenty of fans in there and I've never had overheating problems before.
One other thing, in the bios under auto settings its says the timings are 3,4,4,8 and the command rate is 2T (plus loads more timings that I've never heard of before). Should I leave it at this?

I'd try and set the CMD rate to 1T, that'll give you a performance boost. Run MemTest though to see if it is stable after doing so. A voltage increase may be required. But I'm sure I got my mates GeIL value to run at 8-3-3-3.0 1T with 2.9 - 3.0v

:)

Thanks, I tried setting it to 3,4,4,8 at 1T and it worked fine, ran memtest for a while and played games with no issues. I'm trying 2.5,3,3,8 at 1T right now and see how it goes. I've left the voltage at auto, hopefully it will run fine at this setting. I'm just wondering if it will show any benefits.

In any case I'm suprised I still get stuttering in some games with 2gb ram. I was just playing condemned: criminal origins and while maximum texture detail is now playable, I still get the odd stuttering when the game autosaves or I turn a corner in a new area. Same thing with BF2, but it only happens briefly when loading a new map. Everything else does feel considerably more responsive though.

Is this normal? Am I expecting too much from 2gb? I can't understand why games developers don't load everthing into the memory because clearly theres still loads available; when I quit the game, windows desktop and icons are still completely in the memory and fully responsive.

Might be down to your hard drive that part. I've noticed since switching from IDE to my Raptor and 7200.10 drive (along with 2Gb RAM) that loading is quick and smooth.

Make sure your drives are clean of junk files, defragged regularly with a good 3rd party program (not Windows) such as O&O Defrag. Also, with 2Gb I have found that setting windows pagefile to a set 1024 - 1024 (1Gb) is more than enough. Perhaps do this, and also set it onto another drive / partition to increase perforamnce. :)

I have my windows, programs and games on a raid-0 array (2x7200rpms) so I'm not exactly sure if its causing the problems. I have set the pagefile as 1024mb and placed it on the raid array, but I also have a 250gb drive I could put it on, but I'm not sure if that will make any difference. I think the stuttering in condemned could just be down to the engine, after all it is based on the fear engine.

Anyway thanks again for the help!

Ah that sounds quite fast. :D Nevermind, no worries though!
