Matchplay is when I always think the darts year proper starts (I know there is plenty of other tournaments beforehand these days but not big televised ones). It's one of the major events along with the Worlds.

Premier League in this format is a lot better than it used to be but you get a bit fed up of the same players every week for 5 months, time to get onto the proper tournaments and see who can emerge from the pack to challenge the big guns.
