General Darts Thread

True what Humphries said, there are too many good players now for anyone to dominate.

Phils 16 titles will be a miracle for someone to beat.
If anyone was going to get close to Taylor it would've been MvG, at his peak around 2015-6 sort of time he was probably playing the best darts anyone ever has, although Taylor 2009-12 sort of period would run him close. He had televised averages of 114+ half a dozen times, in the space of less than 2 years. I predicted he'd probably win around 8-10 world titles, but Taylors mark was just too big, sustaining that level isn't easy. The problem is, not only has there been more competition at the top end, but he's gone off the boil slightly.

Even Littler, who has a big 'head start' in terms of age being a finalist several years younger than MvG, meaning he could comfortably play another 25+ years, I doubt will get close even if his game develops.

Regarding the PL selections, you can't really argue against including Price and Cross, as they are 5 and 6 in the world. Price gives you the pantomime villain plus big night in Cardiff, and Cross is looking decent again of late. Then it's obvious the PDC/Sky were going to want to capitalise on the publicity they've had from Littler, new fan base wanting to see him, sponsorship opportunities, viewing figures, hardly going to leave him out.
So you're left with 1 spot. Peter Wright, personally I'd have left out, maybe gone with Noppert to drive the engagement in Holland, given he's the next highest ranked player. He's the one I feel sorry for, he's ranked higher than Wright who was poor in the PL recently from what I recall.

Gerwyn Price beats world champion Luke Humphries 6-4 in first quarter

Luke the Nuke on again at the mo

Edit: And Luke wins 6-3 and goes into the Semis against Gerwyn Price
