General Filament Chat

Anyone got an recommendations for transparent PETG? I was going to just go for Bambu's but wanted to check if anyone has any experience with it.
I've used Sunlu transparent. Not sure how it compares to Bambu though.

This was done using it. It's definitely not clear but might be able to get it clearer by tweaking print settings.

Thanks, what 3D printer was that on? If it was on a Bambu can you let me know which preset please? Also do you remember the infill used?

I've used the Sunlu also, nothing much of value to add beyond not having any problems I recall.

That said, I find Sunlu unreliable as a company. I have had frequent AMS jams due to badly cut ends of rolls, plus their approach to refills is a farce. Outside of the jams it prints ok I find and is usually available pretty cheap at around £8-10/KG for PETG.

I've not had issues with SunLu, I use them and AnyCubics own stuff mainly, with a sprinkling of Jayo and others.

The only issue I’ve had with Sunlu, and something like 90% of all the filament I’ve printed is Sunlu, is the old, barrow, black spools in my AMS. But that’s not every time. The newer refil spools, blue ones, are far better.

Part of me wonders if it could be related to a specific batch/production period. I should have probably tracked more when it occurred, I cannot recall if I have had it with any "newer" rolls, it may have just been with the older fixed/non-refillable black spools

Ah glad to hear that, posted as I was speculating it could be isolated to the older rolls!

Needed a Matte blue in a hurry and Bambu Labs was out of stock so ordered some Overture Matte PLA from Amazon.

Holy Smokes - Never used this brand before, printing NFC business cards with a 0.2mm nozzle and no ironing, the top surface finish is incredible

Need pictures :D

I've got a roll of their PETG. Seems alright but to be honest, the cardboard spool is a massive turn-off. A right pain with an AMS that's most easily solved by buying a different brand that comes on a (recyclable or refillable) plastic spool. A standard size for spools would make refillable so much more viable.

Managed to get a Sunlu Filadryer SP2 for £85 delivered direct from Sunlu. I have a couple of 3KG spools that i want to dry. I know it only drys at up to 70 Degrees but i only use up to ABS at the moment. If i grab some PET-CF or PA6-CF i can use the one at work. I also grabbed a 3KG Spool of White PLA+ and White PETG for £23.99 Each.

Couple of questions!

I want some TPU in black, anyone got a brand preference for TPU? Ideally a smaller spool, as won't ever get through a whole kilo!

CF infused PETG - I bought some TINMORRY branded CF PETG and each time I've used it, for bigger prints, it clogs the nozzle. I assume small bits of carbon build up in the nozzle over time and it eventually clogs, is this due to layer height being too fine so not getting enough flow, or a poor batch of filament which is too CF heavy?

I was put off with the Elegoo filament and their cardboard spools especially for the AMS but I just took the cardboard outer off and fitted the filament on to the spare re-usable Sunlu spools I had lying about. Works a treat.

I think there's at least 3 gens of Sunlu spool, all of different dimensions. I did try that with a spool of PETG-CF and regretted it quite quickly when I discovered it was an incompatible size and I couldn't snap them together. Width can be different as well as core size. I've got the Overture spool on external rollers on the A1 Mini and I'll just finish it up and not replace it. Really liking the Tinmorry PETG-GF at the moment. Strong, stiff, not overly expensive and just prints beautifully. Just printed a laptop case out of it - I say laptop but it's just the motherboard and cooler, the screen, wifi and USB board are dead but it'll run a Proxmox setup in very little space. Screws to mount the motherboard are M2.x2.8 and just 3D printed into the model. A slight amount of self-tapping but it's holding them very nicely - ditto for the M3's although they were longer so I had to run a tap down them to bring them to size.

Got an email earlier from Sunlu, they’re doing bundles of 250g mini spool filaments now, in various colours obviously. I’ve not looked at the website just yet.
