General point/question/issue with sigs...

I thought it was always 20k and we have similar join dates but then I've never bothered with a graphical signature yet. :)

While we are on the subject though has the word wrap been reintroduced at 400pixels or can it please be reintroduced, Rotty said he'd nudge an admin after another thread but nothing seems to have come of it yet so I was wondering what was happening?
I too would like to see that word wrap thing fixed, makes the forum much more uniform when its working properly:)

Maybe I was just misguided about the 24k rule... Not sure really.
Could have sworn it was 20k at one point though?

Nevermind

It's pretty simple.

You can have however many lines of text you want in an image, but if it is perceived as an attempt to break the 4 lines of text rule (i.e. if the text in the image wouldn't fit on to 4 lines in size 1) then it may be taken down.

So a transparent background with 5 lines of text would be against the rules?

A white background, with a boarder and an image of your PC in the corner... with 5 lines of smaller text in it... wouldn't?

They'd both be against the rules if they were consecutive lines of text that would otherwise not fit within 4 lines of size 1.

A user decides that since he's had his 8 line signature edited out he'll just put it in an image to work around the rule. Sure it's taking up less space, but there's still a concentrated block of ugly text. A mod sees it and thinks "Cheeky bugger" and removes it.

But if images are being removed on the grounds of being 'ugly'? Where does than end?

If I put Jade Goody in my sig does it get removed?

If I put lots of random letters in my sig does it get removed?

If I put just random splogges of pink and green in it? Removed?

All somes across a bit random doesn't it?

Just seems odd than all I want to do is list my PC equipment, to help other PC users, on a forum run by a PC retailer, to discuss PC equipment, in a signature that is actually smaller than technically allowed in the FAQ (75 pixels + 1 line)... And I can't :(

And worse still all my hard work just gets nuked/deleted... :(

What if they scrolled such that only four appeared at a time?

OOOPSS! IGNORE! Of course animated .gifs are not permitted... My bad!

None the less... All very odd :)

So if i moved the guybrush quote to cover 2 lines like the murray one i.e...

Guybrush
blahblahblah

Murray
blahblahblah

Then my sig would be removed because it breaks the rules, 4 lines in image and 1 line underneath?

...That's got to be the pettiest rule i've ever seen dreamed up in this place. The original reason was because of loading times, it just seems to be a case of mountain out of a molehill.

No, it wouldn't as I can see quite clearly that yours isn't an attempt to circumvent the rules.

Us moderators aren't stupid, we actually think about problems before doing anything about them.

We're trying not to muck about with fine tuning too much yet, it make upgrading again a lot more difficult so we're waiting until we know this version inside out.

Thanks for the clarification, I thought Rotty probably would have asked but figured I might as well check since this thread is for questions about sigs. :)

The random letters all over the place in my proposed sig image would be fairly messy...

Are you going to do anything but ignore what I'm saying?

If not, then I'll consider this thread closed. I am explaining extremely clearly.

There is no official "rule" for any of this, it's merely the moderators seeing little ****s bending the rules occasionally that ruins it for the rest of you.

I apologise on the behalf of the whole team for the loss of any signatures up until now however it will continue. I advise you all to keep offline version of your signatures.

Like completely deleting hundreds of characters of text someone has carefully arranged in their sig to be tidy and easy to read? And not actually warning the person properly/clearly before hand, or making any sort of backup/copy (ie: just mail it to them)?

Grrr.. Yes I'm annoyed at that if you can't tell :)
