General RPG discussion (formally : DND + RPG)

New campaign is a good one.
Location, people (all experienced) and feel will actually make some friends.

My character is probably the most popular. Because she's a sassy *****.

Its taken a long time to find something that seems this good.
Certainly more about PC on PC and PC on NPC and interactions than the actual story. Which is my favourite part of dnd

Here's me trying to choose what adventure to run when the updated 5e PHB drops. My shortlist so far:
  • Descent into Avernus
  • Princes of the Apocalypse
  • Storm Kings Thunder
  • Rime of the Frostmaiden
  • Tomb of Annihilation
All have their merits and all need some work to be not totally broken or make sense but that's TTRPG's in my experience. Any thoughts?

im a bit behind with his one so will catch up tomorrow.

but thought people might enjoy checking out : star trek adventures 1e

for those interested in DND

one summary :
* Summer 2025: Dragon Anthology (10 adventures)
* Fall 2025: New Starter Set
* Late 2025: Forgotten Realms Players Guide
* Late 2025: Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide

while excited for a new starter set not sure we need one so soon.
any way lets see were this goes with all the other stuff that been going on between wotc & playerbase.

Things are going well, thank you for asking. We played a OneShot called From the Forest They Fled. It's a DM's Guild module part of a pack whose name escapes me. It was good although we were down to 3 + DM. One of our members has confirmed they won't be returning which is a real shame because they were quite the character, it may be the UK timing just wasn't convenient, being mid afternoon on a Sunday in the US for them. I don't know about the other member who is Scottish, still hoping they'll return we seemed to get on. In the meantime we have recruited 2 new members to join the campaign, not spoken to or played alongside either yet. We're having a week off for 4th July Celebrations in the US (not me). Then we're going to be playing an old Basic Edition module set on Mystara called Raheisa (sp?) which involves an eleven village.

I've really enjoyed playing the campaign so far and with the group, so definitely looking to continue.
i guessing its prossibly this pack : https://marketplace.roll20.net/browse/bundle/22099/uncaged-volume-1/
Uncaged Volume 1
for some reason i thought i replied to this one :/ unless im thinking of a differant pack.
around 3hours of game play?
you seems to be playing a lot of levle 1-3 oneshots?

how are things progressing? its been a while did you manage to start your new module in the end : Rahasia and did the 2 new recruits settle?

Yeah it was a shame. But it happens. Not everyone is going to get on with everyone. Probably more likely to not.

So I now have 4 dnd groups.

1: very erratic and online. I only go because it's easy and quite funny. Gaps in sessions are too long for me to keep track of story.
Here I play a male sorcerer/tiefling focused on fire

2: adventurers league one shots with same character. Quite a fun group and I drop in when I don't have much going on or other groups cancel.

3: in town group started a few weeks ago. Not feeling this one. It's a bit dry. People playing are from BG3 and role play is lacking. It's a hassle getting onto town, parking, playing in a pub (so it's a bit noisy). Nothing is dire. But nothing is great. It's quite expensive, probably 20-25 pounds for an evening with food just for me.
Playing a female death domain cleric / elf.

4: just started (session 0). Playing at someone's house, everyone is experienced, it sounds really fun, it's only 6 minutes drive. Will be playing my bard eloquence/fairy here.
Its a mixed group. 3 women and 2 men. And male DM. And a 4 female 1 male party (as I play a female fairy).
Sounds like it's going to be role play heavy. Which is my thing.

AI pics of last 2 characters. I do love the image generators, it takes a fair few goes as I can picture in my head the characters.. But getting a generation to be that pic is hard!
im guessing game 3 didnt go well and decieded to move on to greener pastures?
to much BG3 expectation and not enough proper TTRPG expirence in the group?

you mentioned :
"New campaign is a good one.

you sounded really positive about, im guessing this is No4, have you managed to find a good group thats clicking? which is being run ? or is it a home brew?
did you buy change run a one shot or two with them to guage how you'd all get on or just dived straight in?

your either time efficent, retired, or both :D i cant imaging having so many games going at the same time and keeping track of them with all the other stuff you seem to be doing as well.
while AI generated i was mre partial to the death domain cleric. i was looking at the fairy and i cant stop thinking of frozen.. sorry

Our OcUK ttrpg group has just finished doing the Beginner Box for PF2e, there were a couple moments where none of us were certain of a ruling... but that's expected when it's the first time playing for some of the group and others hadn't looked at the rules since it first released. Character advancement was probably one of the the bits that took the most effort as there are so many choices you can make.

The gang are now planning characters to give a full PF2e campaign a spin with me running one of the three part adventure paths.
there is the humble bundle back at the moment a few days left to pick up a lot of content for a good price.

did you by chance do the : troubles in otari ?
its a sort of natural follow on.
hopefully all having fun :)

Tomb of Annihilation was the only one i recognised from the list, but i dont think you ran with this one, sounds to random, and hex/dungeon crawly?

So yeah I canned the in town 1 as the local one is better in every way.
We are on session 8.

I have 1 consistent group, 1 very inconsistent group.. But it's fun. And option of 1 shots when the others are abandoned due to scheduling.

We don't have kids and work at home so we have free time in evenings in winter. Not very organised though! :D

In my online 4 year campaign (many gaps) my character just died lol. So. I'm introducing a new one. Not disappointed as I think my old character had run his course.

So i have
-female fairy/bard(eloquence)
-female shadar kai elf/cleric(death domain)
Who replaces...
-male tiefling/sorcerer... RIP! :D

Yeah going to try and re-run Storm Kings Thunder with a chunk of Princes of the Apocalypse mixed in and add some monsters from Bigby's Book of Giants to run it to level 20 and fight some scary stuff

Currently waiting on Foundry updates to facilitate online play but it's looking like into the new year before I'll really be ready.

We've ventured away from Otari, instead heading to the River Kingdoms via the Gatewalkers adventure path.
So far it's been okay, though the combat has been somewhat brutal in areas as I appear to be unable to roll anything other than a critical hit with most of the enemies.

I'm still trying to decide what I think of PF2e system as a whole, especially with the remaster changes.
There's so much to re-read and process that it's feeling like a massive chore at times.

While I do like a bit of Terry Pratchet's Discworld, I'm not sure I could cope with playing too many sessions of a ttrpg full of puns and constant silliness.
For me it'd probably be a game for a one-shot, maybe once every couple of years... like I do with Paranoia. So not really something I'd want to spend £40+ on.

Cosmere is a new ttrpg that I'm looking forward to, that and the new Coriolis books.
