Geohot and Fail0verflow are getting sued

Too many people in this thread think they know everything about CFW and hacking.

I doubt many could make a judgement on whether having the private keys available can determine whether or not Sony can detect CFW.

eh? I take it you dont know how microsoft detect modified fw, they release a dashboard update, their equivalent of ps3 firmware, and you get the option to update to it, those with modded fw dont, wait a week or 2 for the fix, apply it, then update, how do you think its going to be any different on ps3? updates arent forced, this has already been going on with xbox live for over 4 years now, its why there is cfw

and as for psycho sonnys statement about cfw devs, c4e has already stated he will be looking at the ps3 fw after completing the new xbox s fw, not to mention the others who have been releasing payloads for the ps3 already for months now, backups are already running on geohots cfw and on psn in some cases for a few days now, havent noticed sony being aware of it or doing anything about it other than compiling a new firmware, which in turn will be modified within a short space of time, i realise you mod haters are desperately hoping things will be otherwise, but im sorry to tell you, it wont

and you know this how? My guess is that you HOPE it wont be the case. Which is fair enough, But dont speak like its fact. Nothing is concrete here, other than the fact theres currently a key on the market that "legitimises" software.

Because if you look at the PSP, it was blown years ago and sony are still playing cat and mouse with the devs, they can't keep it locked, now compare that to the leaking of the keys, there's literally nothing they can do now because of how much reliance they placed on those keys, it was bad enough without it, it's game over for those who are mildly serious about using their PS3 how ever they want.

For the layperson however, (the type that calls their computer tower/case a "hard drive" or "CPU"), sony will be able to keep on top of because the chances are they won't be going anywhere near PS3 mods.

I'm not sure how far PSP modding has come, I was in the scene for legal homebrew up until M33 5.0, but you could not access PSN with these firmwares, and so for that reason I'm out.

The judge has granted Sony's request for a TRO (Temporary Restraining Order) in the case against Geohot (George Hotz) and the other named defendants. It has also been ruled that Sony has shown sufficient cause to keep the case in San Francisco.

think they are well within their rights to sue the little freaks, just because you bought the console it doesn't automatically give you the right to basically mess about with it and mess everything up, to be honest on the PS3 hackers are the bane of everybody. they think they are all clever, hacking a game but its really selfish, because 99% of people on PSN want to actually play the game for what it is, and at the moment thats being screwed over. Sony should sue them and put a clause in, that if either of them goes within five feet of a PS3 console, chuck their arses in jail...! :D honestly, i can't believe some people on here actually agree that hacking is acceptable, its a sad day for a forum like this one! :(

You buy a piece of hardware, you can do whatever the hell you like with it to be honest. How dare a judge grant Sony the right to impound his computer. Corporations should have no right to do this. Whilst piracy is wrong, the blatant wrongness of some of the outcome of this case is disheartening. What next :/

he cant do whatever he wants though because hes broke copyrights and allsorts of other things when making custom firmwares or making software for a device he has no license for. its bordering between right and wrong and the judge will decide. whats unfair about that ?

iran own some uranium , doesnt mean they should be allowed to do whatever they want with it just because they own it!

I'll just quickly add my two pennies worth.

I really couldn't give a monkey's as long as it doesn't affect my own online playing experience.

CoD: MW2 & BO hacks come to mind. I'm fed up of joining matches with super jumps and infinite ammo with the only option of leaving the game is to quit via XMB. Doesn't help when games are hosted P2P either.

Would you gladly let then do whatever they like with it?

In your view is iran stable enough as a country not to use it as an attack weapon rather than a MAD device?

My issue is more a moralistic one that questions why we should dictate what other sovereign states can or cannot have. It's a bit hypocritical, and the reason "we" don't want other countries to have them is because we won't then be able to dictate terms to them. Anyway, I don't want to derail the thread :)

Regarding the op - taking the fame of something like this means you also get the fallout and Sony will win. Something about you can hack the hardware but if you modify sonys code you break copyright/I.p. Law or something...
