Germany Coup Attempt Foiled

Hmmm was the coup in the Fatherland orchestrated and paid for in the Motherland?…

Not something you would expect to read about taking place in Germany. Well not post 1945.
 
Got to pretty self deluded if they coup guys think that they can take over the country with 25 people.

Though getting more coverage than our domestic terrorist bombings of the last couple of months.

Overthrow is a bit much. It might be what they were hoping to do but it doesnt work like that outside a tinpot republic.

I spotted that article this morning. What were they hoping to achieve? I was casually considering getting a ticket for the House of Commons visitor area and then declaring me leader of the new UK but then reality hit and I realised what a moronic idea it was.

Apparently, some people believe coups work sort of like a capture-the-flag game... once you seize a prominent government-related building then you "win" and magically the country becomes yours just because.
 
Yeah I think a gang of 25 nutters planning on 'overthrowing' the government doesn't really constitute a news report using that phrase!

No more than a bunch of guys down the pub saying they'll storm Buckingham Palace and declare a republic. Think there has to actually be an element of possibly pulling it off to say they were planning to overthrow the government.

100%, no significant insider support from the military, people within the civil service, police, judiciary etc.. as far as we can tell, no plausible plan to actually even "attempt" and fail to execute, it's insurrection and I don't think anyone would argue that some right-wing nutters wanting to do something like this isn't indeed dangerous and something to be concerned about but it's not a coup or a plausible attempt at one, not even close tbh.

It's essentially, as the wise poster Tony pointed out, like they're LARPing at a coup attempt! :)
