England and Liverpool footballer Steven Gerrard has been arrested following an alleged assault.

The incident happened at about 0230 GMT at a pub in Southport. Six men were detained later in a nearby street.

The men, four from Huyton, one from Formby and one from Litherland, remain in police custody.

A 34-year-old man from Southport was taken to hospital with facial injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

The men from Huyton are aged 33, 31, 29 and 19. A 28-year-old from Formby and an 18-year-old from Litherland are also being questioned.

Gerrard, 28, is Liverpool captain and scored twice in his team's 5-1 victory over Newcastle on Sunday.

Interesting but then again he's from Liverpool hehe
 
without knowing the details I'm going to guess it's a nothing case. some guys got drunk decided to give him a bit of lip, possibly he'd had a couple of shandys and gave them some back or some of the people he was there with did. all spent a night in the cells and now on their way. of course it's bad publicity because of his status but to be fair to him i think it'll get blown out of proportion by the media.
 
Meh. This thread will get closed now, but this is nothing new.
And Southport is full of trouble, so I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't the instigator.
 
Sounds like someone has been injured - so it might not just go away (Im not suggesting its anywhere near gbh though)

May not have anything to do with Gerrard - ie he may have just been in the group without being actually involved in fistycuffs or anything

....in fact probably wont have
 
Yeah we all know what the british media is like, they will make a small thing something massive cos it is Gerrard. British media are the worst in the world for this, right i'm of to the shop to buy The Sun.

Be suprised if there's much in the story (from Gerrard's point of view anyway) but silly of him to get caught up in it never the less. He should have never gone into that bar once he knew the Newcastle side were there ;)
 
Just had a mate text me saying his Bentley is still down Bold Street with a parking ticket on it lol!

EDIT: From another mate saying there is a shed load of press outside the police station.
