Get me in a fast car again...

My freind always says about BMW's "if its not sport, its grandad!"

Basically you have to get an m sport or at least a sport model or you're driving an old farts car.

I think you're correct r.e £8k being optimistic - it's bottom of the barrel money (imo) and any cars you find around this price will be sitting there for a reason. You would be better with a 330i/ci for that kind of money I would say. The MPS mazdas are good value for money have a look at them

viewed and drove a Leon Cupra MK2 at the weekend. Loved how it drove and actually didnt mind the interior that much. Felt a lot 'punchier' than the Focus.

The brakes are immense. I felt like you only had to look at them and your face would be pressed up against the windscreen.

Anyway, i would have bought it however the interior condition was not great which was a shame.

It is a 07 plate under a used approved scheme with 48000 miles, FSH with SEAT.

It needs two new rear tyres, some alloy refurbs, a service, new mirror cover (as one is cracked/stonechipped)

its up for £7995, and to be honest, because of the interior condition all i want to part with is £7500 with everything that needs doing to it done.

The best they have said they can do the car for with everything is £7695.

I just don't know what to do :(. I don't think it is a bad deal for a used approved schemed example of one of these but the poor interior condition is putting me off. I would walk away if the market was flooded with them but there are not many for sale to be honest!

Walk away. There are loads of cupra R's about so have a look around. What colour was it? If you are set on a cupra R then IMO I would avoid the yellow ones. They have really bad lacquer peel amd fade really badly too.

It was a mk 2 Cupra not a Cupra R.

What specifically wasn't in good nick inside? If it's bits of centre console that would need to be changed as part of the full dash and would bug you forever then I'd say forget it, but if it's scratches on door plates etc or radio surrounds that can be changed relatively cheaply and easily then don't let it put you off.

If the seats are ruined after that mileage then run a mile I'd say, approved used or not

Well the seats had some stains on them ( probably sweat...gross) but they have said they will properly clean all the upholstery and give it a thorough clean and valet.

There were scratches to the rear of the seats, the back of the plastic centre bit that runs between the two front seats ( clearly kids constantly moving their feet up and down it).

Bad scoring/scratches to the plastic underside of the boot door.

I just got the idea that it hadnt been hugely well looked after interior wise.

I'm sure it will look a lot better once properly cleaned and valeted though as they clearly hadnt touched it since taking in and it made a bad impression on me.

i am just not sure to be honest, and i think that means i should probably leave it.

bah, I have pretty much decided on a Cupra MK2 but the market for these is just stagnant at the moment.:(

I didnt go for that yellow one, so they sold it trade and now its on for 8,799 elsewhere...lol.

It was a bargain but i guess for a reason.... the interior had not been well looked after at all and something was stopping me from buying it.

There havent been any new sub 9k ones for a while now in the right colour.

All the Seat dealers want 10k for them which is ridiculous for a 5 year old seat in my opinion.

The market just isnt moving. None of them seem to be selling but no one is dropping prices. Seeing cars that have been for sale for 2+ months now that havent dropped price. Just the same cars for sale at the same price.

Went to see another yellow Cupra today at a Seat main dealer.

This one also had stained seats (what the fudge are people up to in these!?)

When it was idling, every so often, it would sort of 'choke' and the engine would move about. I don't know what that means but i doubt that it is good.

The rear bumper looked a slightly different shade of yellow to the body. dealer said that it was just because it was plastic and the body was metal....i suspect a bumper respray at some point.

The dealer was also a bit off-ish about the cambelt/waterpump which should have been done at 4 years. The car is an 07 reg and only on 28000 miles and has a full service history with seat but no mention of the cambelt. Bloke just said they will do it if it needs doing....yeh right.

:( search continues i think.

Ok, thinking about upping my budget maybe to get something really nice that i really want rather than constantly going to see naff Cupras that havent been well looked after.

This worth going to see?:

I mean its 2005 but it seems like it has every option box ticked!

Whats the depreciation like on one of this? It worries me that its already a 7 year old car.

Also, on a used approved BMW's, its says 'minimum 12 months warranty'. Does this mean they sometimes offer more?

What what the running costs be like when compared with a 2007 Cupra do you guys reckon? Similar, worse, or better?

one last thing. Would these be bi-xenons or just standard?

Look like bi-xenons, nice tidy looking motor, not easy to find with that kind of spec, shame no idrive/sat nav but I'd say go have a test drive i'm sure you'll love it, but then i'm a little bias. Love my motor:D

You can sometimes haggle more than 1 years warranty, though on the 1 Series with that mileage it isn't expensive to renew anyway.
